Student answer (Band 6.0)
we no longer need animals kept in the zoos, therefore zoos should be closed.
Zoos are where animals are kept especially, animals that are not mostly seen at homes (wild animals). If these zoos are closed how will people see those animal and learn first hand how the live and how they look like. Zoos serves as educational purposes for people.
Also zoos are mean of employment for people and when it is no longer there many people will be jobless which will bring about crime in the society.
Moreso, many people study Zoology in the university, closing of Zoos or not having animals in the zoo will render their academic discipline useless and it won't be in favor of people whom have studied the course in the past and current students of the course too.
For instance, when I was in secondary school, we always go to a Zoo in, university of Nigeria Nsukka and a means of sit seeing, education and entertainment. It made us know about different animals and how they behave even though we where being thought in class but this helps us more in learning and understanding it much better.
However I do not agree for Zoos to be closed and i believe animals should be kept at the zoos for educational, entertainment and work related reasons.
Conclusively, I advise zoos should not be closed rather should be kept actively and schools, different organizations and families should always take their people at the zoo to see different animals and those working at the zoo should make sure measures are kept for safety of the people and them too.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position against closing zoos. You provide relevant arguments, such as educational value, employment, and the preservation of academic disciplines like Zoology. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For example, the point about crime resulting from unemployment is a significant leap in logic that lacks sufficient explanation or evidence. To reach a higher band, you should expand on your arguments with more detailed analysis and ensure that your examples, such as the one about the University of Nigeria, are more closely integrated into the logical flow of your argument.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your argument. You use some cohesive devices like 'Also', 'Moreso', and 'However' to link ideas. However, the progression of ideas is sometimes mechanical, and the transition between sentences can feel abrupt. The referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the sentence 'how will people see those animal and learn first hand how the live', where the connection to the previous point could be smoother. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence would enhance the overall flow.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You use a range of vocabulary that is generally adequate for the task, such as 'academic discipline', 'educational purposes', and 'employment'. However, there are several instances of awkward phrasing and word choice, such as 'mean of employment' (should be 'means of employment') and 'sit seeing' (should be 'sightseeing'). There are also minor errors in word forms, such as 'how the live' instead of 'how they live'. To improve, focus on learning common collocations and refining your use of academic vocabulary to ensure precision.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues (e.g., 'Zoos serves'), missing articles, and punctuation errors. For instance, 'people whom have studied' should be 'people who have studied'. Additionally, there are errors in tense consistency, such as 'we where being thought' (should be 'we were being taught'). While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to affect the overall fluency of the writing.
