Student answer (Band 5.0)

Some people think that animals should be free dont need to kept them in the zoo ,and zoo should be close .I believe zoos are just not kepting animals but also helping them and taking care of them , zoos are not only for the childern but older people also enjoy going there therefore zoos should'nt be closed .

people who consider that zoos are no longer need to have animals are those who assume that keeping animals in the cage is harmful for that because several animals becaome sick or face numerous health issues and few of them could'nt servive and die.

Secondly some people assume keeping animals in zoo is dangerous not only or them seld but also the people who is working in the zoo but i believe zoos are the entertarment for the public . Usually on weekends most of the public went to the zoos with there childerns to show them all the animals at one place children really enjoy going there.

thirdly many schools organize the tour to the zoo for the primery childern just to show them the different animals at one place .zoos also use as the purpose of education for children. Not only children but young people also amusse going in the zoo. For example in pakistan there is the biggest zoo of pakistan and in weekends alot of people visit the zoo with there famlies and spend quality time there watch different animals therefore i believe zoos should'nt be closed .

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position against closing zoos. However, the development of ideas is limited. While you mention education and entertainment, the arguments are repetitive and lack depth. For instance, you mention children enjoying zoos in multiple paragraphs without expanding on the broader conservation or research roles that zoos play, which would strengthen your argument. The response is somewhat simplistic, focusing primarily on the recreational aspect of zoos rather than a balanced discussion of the complex issues involved in animal captivity. To improve, you should aim to provide more nuanced reasons and specific examples that go beyond general observations.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate. For example, the transition 'secondly' and 'thirdly' is used, but the logical flow between sentences is frequently interrupted by grammatical errors and awkward phrasing. Referencing is sometimes unclear, such as in the second paragraph where 'for that' is used vaguely. The progression of ideas is present but feels disjointed due to the lack of sophisticated linking words and the repetitive nature of the content. Improving the variety of transition signals and ensuring clear pronoun references would enhance the overall coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and often repetitive. You rely on basic terms like 'enjoy', 'animals', and 'zoo' throughout the text. There are also several spelling errors, such as 'childern', 'servive', 'entertarment', 'amusse', and 'famlies'. These errors, combined with incorrect word choices like 'kepting' instead of 'keeping' and 'there' instead of 'their', indicate a restricted range of vocabulary. To reach a higher band, you need to demonstrate a wider range of vocabulary, including less common lexical items, and pay closer attention to spelling and accurate word formation.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that often impede communication. There are significant issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'people who is working'), sentence structure (e.g., 'Some people think that animals should be free dont need to kept them'), and punctuation. The use of complex sentences is attempted but is consistently faulty, leading to run-on sentences and fragmented thoughts. The majority of the sentences contain errors, which prevents the text from demonstrating a good level of grammatical control. Focusing on basic sentence construction, correct verb tenses, and proper punctuation is essential for improvement.
