Student answer (Band 5.0)

Few people think that we don't need to have animals kept in zoos and zoos should be closed.in my perspective I think zoos should be closed because few people keep animals in very bad condition.

In my opinion zoos should be closed as it results keeping animals in a cage is a very cruel thing to do a animal in addition few people keep animals in very bad condition.they don't have enough space to move.futhermore they don't have enough food to eat.animals in zoos suffer from many diseases and they don't have enough medicine and treatment for the animals which results very bad condition of the animals.for instance there is an animal in a zoo and suffer from a very dangerous disease the person who is the takecare of the animals won't take of her health if he find out then also they don't follow a proper treatment for the animal which results animal can suffer from a very bad health condition.

On the other hand take away freedom of an animal who can't speak is a very cruel thing a person can do to an animal.animals suffer from a lot af things when they are in zoo.suppose if they are free from the zoo they are on there own and thay can live freely moreover they can enjoy nature in addition they will be very happy.

In conclusion, zoos should be closed and the animals should be free from the zoo in addition they should release in the forest where they can enjoy the nature a clean sky ,fresh air and clean water and live freely for the rest of there lifes

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position that zoos should be closed. However, the development of ideas is limited and repetitive. The arguments focus almost exclusively on the cruelty of cages and poor conditions, lacking a more nuanced discussion or consideration of the potential educational or conservation roles of zoos. The supporting examples, such as the mention of a sick animal, are vague and lack depth. To improve, you should aim to provide more sophisticated arguments and explore the topic from different perspectives to demonstrate a more comprehensive understanding of the issue.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the logical progression is weak. While you use some cohesive devices like 'in addition', 'furthermore', and 'on the other hand', they are often used mechanically or incorrectly. The referencing is sometimes unclear, and the flow between sentences is disjointed. For instance, the transition between the second and third paragraphs is abrupt. To achieve a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of cohesive devices more naturally and ensure that each paragraph has a clear, singular focus that contributes to the overall argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is quite basic and repetitive, relying on simple terms like 'bad', 'cruel', and 'happy'. There are frequent errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'takecare of the animals' instead of 'caretaker' or 'zookeeper', and 'take away freedom' instead of 'depriving animals of their freedom'. The range of vocabulary is limited, which restricts your ability to express complex ideas precisely. To improve, try to incorporate more topic-specific vocabulary related to animal welfare and conservation, and focus on using more precise adjectives and verbs to convey your points effectively.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'few people think that we don't need'), article usage, and sentence structure. Many sentences are run-on or fragmented, such as 'in my perspective I think zoos should be closed because few people keep animals in very bad condition.' Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing spaces after periods and incorrect capitalization. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence structures, ensuring proper subject-verb agreement, and proofreading for punctuation and capitalization errors.
