Student answer (Band 6.5)
There is an ongoing debate about whether zoos should be closed because there is no need to keep animals in zoos anymore. I believe that zoos are still important to rescue animals who suffered from animal abuse, however, there should not be zoos only for human entertrainment purpose.
One of the main reasons why some people believe that zoos should be closed is that for a long time, some zoos kept the animals in a confined space for human entertrainment, while the only target was to make profit. Some places, for instance, keeps a large number of animals in a small space to maximize their profits. As a result, the animals had no quality of life or prospective of going back to the their natural habitat. For this reason, many people believe that closing zoos is the best solution to solve this issue.
On the other hand, there are organizations where the animals are rescued from an abused situation, or from a situation where the animals got hurt. They usually stay in the zoo and get proper treatment until they can return to their habitat. For example, the zoo situated in Joinville rescue wild animals when needed. After the necessary treatment, they are kept in the zoo in large space similar with what they would have in the nature until they can go back to their natural environment. Having the zoo open, results in more animals rescued and treated, while they can raise money for the animals.
In conclusion, I believe that zoos where the focus are in rescue and treat animals should be kept open. However, places where they only have animals for human entertrainment and the main focus is on make money should not be allowed anymore.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have clearly addressed the prompt by taking a balanced position, arguing that zoos should be reformed rather than closed entirely. Your main ideas—the distinction between profit-driven zoos and conservation-focused rescue centers—are relevant and well-developed. You provide a specific example (the zoo in Joinville) to support your argument, which strengthens your response. To reach a higher band, ensure that your conclusion fully synthesizes your main points rather than just restating them. Overall, you have presented a clear position throughout the response and supported it with relevant arguments, meeting the requirements of the task effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each with a distinct focus. You use cohesive devices such as 'On the other hand', 'For instance', and 'As a result' to guide the reader through your arguments. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and there are minor issues with referencing, such as 'the zoo situated in Joinville rescue wild animals' where the subject-verb agreement and the flow could be smoother. Paragraphing is used appropriately, and there is a clear progression of ideas from the problem (profit-driven zoos) to the solution (rescue centers).
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully using terms like 'natural habitat', 'prospective', and 'conservation' (implied). However, there are recurring spelling errors, most notably 'entertrainment' (entertainment) and 'prospective' (prospect). Additionally, some word choices are slightly imprecise, such as 'make money' or 'get proper treatment', which could be elevated to more academic collocations like 'generate revenue' or 'receive veterinary care'. While these errors do not impede communication, they limit the score in this criterion.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you successfully convey your meaning, there are frequent grammatical slips, particularly with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'some places... keeps', 'the focus are in rescue') and prepositional usage (e.g., 'similar with what they would have'). There are also minor errors with articles and pluralization, such as 'in the nature' and 'the their'. Despite these errors, the sentence structures are varied enough to maintain interest, and the meaning remains clear throughout the essay.
