Student answer (Band 5.5)

It is often argued that animal should not be kept in zoos and it should be closed. In my opinion, I partially agree with this view because animal are too dangerous as well as fruitful for us.

First and foremost, there are clear reasons why animals should be kept in zoos are revenue for country and people became safe from them. Firstly, while various animals which are going to be extinct from us are kept in zoo that attract visitors for seeking themselves which collect income for country. Secondly, people became safe when the dangerous animals are kept in zoos. For instance, tiger, lion , cheetah and other dangerous animals are kept in national zoos of Nepal which is one of the most popular zoos among the country. Furthermore, people as well as animals can get good serves in zoos . Consequently, people became safe while none of the terrified predators are free.

On the other hand, I do not support to kept animals in zoos because they also have a rights to live freely with their groups. It is because every creatures have the rights to live with freedom in their groups which they can get in their world, Jungle as well as they can sit anywhere in the forest however cannot in the zoo. . Zoos should be completely band from all over the world and all of the animals might be autonomous . For example, an Elephant are bigger creatures who want huge space which they can get in the forest rather than in zoos. Therefore, zoos should be completely closed and all of the animals might be self-reliant.

In conclusion, although there are several demerits of zoos , I strongly believe that animals should be kept in zoos for the income revenue and safety.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by presenting a position, but the development of ideas is inconsistent. While you provide reasons for both sides, the arguments are often repetitive or lack logical depth. For instance, the point about 'revenue' is mentioned, but not explained in terms of how zoos contribute to conservation or education. The conclusion contradicts the body paragraph by stating you 'strongly believe' animals should be kept in zoos, which undermines the 'partially agree' stance taken in the introduction. To improve, ensure each paragraph focuses on a single, well-developed idea that directly supports your thesis, and ensure your conclusion aligns with your overall argument.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the flow between and within them is often mechanical or confusing. You use basic cohesive devices like 'First and foremost' and 'On the other hand', but these are sometimes used incorrectly or do not lead to a logical progression of thought. For example, the transition 'Consequently, people became safe while none of the terrified predators are free' is confusing because the logic connecting the safety of people to the confinement of predators is not clearly linked. Additionally, the use of referencing is sometimes unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow your argument throughout the text.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and often repetitive. You rely on basic terms like 'dangerous', 'animals', and 'good', which restricts your ability to express complex ideas. There are also noticeable errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'good serves in zoos' (likely meaning services or care) and 'completely band' (should be 'banned'). While the meaning is generally clear, the lack of variety and the frequent errors in word formation prevent the essay from reaching a higher band. To improve, try to incorporate more precise academic vocabulary related to animal welfare and economics.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede readability. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('animal are too dangerous', 'an Elephant are bigger creatures'), incorrect verb forms ('I do not support to kept'), and missing articles. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with unnecessary spaces before periods and commas. While you attempt complex sentences, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar limits your score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and consistent verb tense usage will significantly improve the clarity and accuracy of your writing.
