Student answer (Band 5.5)
Some people believe that zoos are no longer necessary because wild animals can live without being kept in captivity. I disagree with this statement that zoo should be closed. Although the keeping the animals in the zoo is play an improtant role in protection, knowledge and research.
Firslty, keeping the animals in zoo is a good idea because it protect the species which is vanished naturally prehaps from hunters and climate change. zoo can provide them food shelter and medical care with suitable environment. Moreover it can also help to increase the population of these animals. A good example of this is in lahore zoo there was an elephant her name is suzy in lahore zoo she was the only elephat who alive in her species afterthat the government kept her from the wildlife and keep her in zoo and do cross with another elephant just to keep alive their species and she gave a baby elephat this process help to keep alive the specfic species.
Secondly, zoo provide the opportunity to the childrens and adult to lean about wildlife. many visitors specially childrens don't have chance to see the wild animals. Seeing animals in person help to protect the environment and encourage them to protect the nature. zoo can also provide the opportunity to do research on animals behaviour, reproduction, and health, which can contribute to wildlife conservation.
However, some zoo is not performing well and they are enable to maintain the standards of zoonwhich effect the zoo environment and also effect on animals life the governtment should establish strict rules and standards give annual budget every year and close facilities that fail to meet them.
In conclusion, I disagree with that zoos should be completely closed. responsible and modren zoo can contribute significantly to animal protection , knowledge and

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses the prompt by clearly stating a position of disagreement. The ideas regarding conservation and education are relevant and supported by an example. However, the development is somewhat uneven; the example of the elephant in Lahore Zoo is a bit anecdotal and lacks a clear connection to broader conservation success. Furthermore, the conclusion is incomplete, which impacts the overall development of the argument. While the main points are clear, the essay would benefit from more sophisticated analysis of the counter-arguments to reach a higher band. The response is sufficient for the task but lacks the depth required for a higher score.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. Cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Moreover', and 'However' are used to signal the progression of ideas. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical, and there are instances where referencing is unclear, such as the transition between the elephant example and the broader point about species survival. The final paragraph is cut off, which disrupts the logical flow and cohesion of the conclusion. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring a complete, well-structured conclusion would enhance the coherence of the piece.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There are attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'conservation', 'captivity', and 'reproduction'. However, there are several errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'vanished' instead of 'endangered', 'lean' instead of 'learn', and 'modren' instead of 'modern'. These errors do not impede communication, but they do limit the precision of the writing. To improve, the student should focus on accurate word forms and collocations related to environmental and scientific topics.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including issues with subject-verb agreement ('zoo should be closed', 'some zoo is not performing'), article usage, and sentence fragments. For example, 'Although the keeping the animals in the zoo is play an improtant role' is grammatically incorrect. These errors are noticeable and occur frequently, though they rarely prevent the reader from understanding the intended message. A greater focus on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy would significantly improve the quality of the writing.
