Student answer (Band 5.0)

In recent years, zoos should be closed because the animals live in the wild life and it is a widely discussed issue. But I completely disagree with the statement. I think if the environment of wild life is provided in zoo, then the animals live easily in zoo. I shall explain how animals live in zoo and why zoos should be closed.

On the one hand, it is often argue that the government should not proper work performed in zoos like the mess, cages is not cleaned properly, smells are coming from the cages. peoples do not absorbed it. Therefore, the tourists choose to visit other places rather the zoo.

On the other hand, many people believe that zoo is the best place for child to gain knowledge of animals name, how to feed, and how they live. Many people choose it for photography. Some peoples went because they feel relaxation and finds new things about the animals.

In my opinion, the animals should be kept in zoos because the numbers of animals are low in zoos and many animals dead.

In conclusion, both views have their advantages and disadvantages. I believe that the animals should be kept in zoos. This is beneficial for animals and people because many peoples from abroad are come to saw the zoo.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, which significantly impacts the development of ideas. While you state a clear position, the arguments are underdeveloped and repetitive. For example, the point about zoos being educational is mentioned but not expanded upon with specific examples or logical depth. Furthermore, the essay contains contradictory statements, such as saying 'zoos should be closed' in the introduction and then arguing for their necessity. The conclusion is also weak and does not effectively summarize the main points. To improve, ensure you fully explore each argument with supporting evidence and reach the required length.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay uses basic cohesive devices like 'On the one hand' and 'In conclusion', which helps with the overall structure. However, the progression of ideas is often disjointed. The transition between the introduction and the body paragraphs is abrupt, and the logical flow within paragraphs is hampered by grammatical errors and awkward phrasing. For instance, the jump from discussing hygiene to tourism is not well-connected. Paragraphing is present, but the content within the paragraphs lacks a clear focus, making the argument difficult to follow at times. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring each paragraph has a clear topic sentence would enhance coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and often repetitive. You rely on basic terms like 'animals', 'zoos', and 'people'. There are also issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'proper work performed in zoos' and 'peoples do not absorbed it', which are unnatural. The use of 'wild life' is also slightly inaccurate in this context. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use a wider range of vocabulary, including less common lexical items related to the topic, such as 'conservation', 'habitat', 'educational value', or 'welfare'. Focus on learning the correct collocations for the words you use.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'many animals dead', 'peoples are come'), article usage, and sentence structure. Many sentences are simple, and attempts at complex structures often result in errors, such as 'I shall explain how animals live in zoo and why zoos should be closed', which contradicts your actual position. Punctuation is also inconsistent. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring correct verb tenses, and practicing the use of articles and pluralization.
