Student answer (Band 5.5)

Nowadays kepting animals in zoos is no longer necessary has become a debatable issue. This essay does not concur with the given statement because kepting them in zoos can decrease the chances of extinction and zoos are the safe place where animals do not face threats.

To begin with the first cause of disagreement is that, kepting different kinds of species in zoos is the way to save the bio-diversity. There are many species of animals, birds and insects that are no longer available on earth. By kepting them in zoos we can prevent their genes for future. To give an example, according to the World health Organization's report there are many spaces of animals are no longer existing on the earth such as dinosaurs.

Additionally, the another aspect that leads to disagreement is that, zoos are the safe place for all kinds of animal. Animals are provided sufficient food by the authorities so they do not have to worry about food. Regular medical check-ups also conducted by them so it is also a good thing for them. Moreover, they do not feel the threating of hunters. To quote an Instance, according to the report of zoo organization they have saved many lives of animals by giving appropriate medical treatments on time.

To conclude, this essay has shown how zoos are essential for animal's physical health and it also prevents bio-diversity extinction. So this essay has a different understanding of the thinks that zoos are unnecessary and they should be closed.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The student presents a clear position throughout the essay, disagreeing with the idea that zoos should be closed. The response addresses both parts of the task by arguing that zoos help prevent extinction and protect animals from predators and starvation. However, the development of ideas suffers from some strange factual claims and over-generalisations, such as stating that dinosaurs no longer exist because they are kept in zoos (a confusing phrasing likely caused by poor translation or grammatical confusion) and citing the 'World Health Organization' regarding animal species. While the main arguments are relevant, the support is occasionally weak or illogical. This places the response comfortably at Band 6.0.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into four paragraphs with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices and transition markers are used throughout, such as 'To begin with', 'Additionally', and 'To conclude'. However, referencing and cohesion are sometimes faulty or mechanical. For instance, the transition 'to give an example' introduces a factually flawed statement rather than a coherent illustration. Paragraphing is adequate, but the overall progression of ideas feels somewhat repetitive, with the conclusion simply restating the points without adding much new synthesis. These features align well with the Band 6 descriptor.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The student attempts a range of vocabulary appropriate to the topic, including terms like 'extinction', 'bio-diversity', 'authorities', and 'medical treatments'. However, there is a persistent lexical and morphological error pattern throughout the text: the gerund form 'kepting' is used repeatedly instead of 'keeping' ('Nowadays kepting animals...', 'By kepting them...'). Additionally, there are collocation errors such as 'feel the threating of hunters' instead of 'threat of hunters' and 'thinks' used as a noun. These frequent word-formation errors and inaccuracies limit the lexical score to a Band 5.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, incorporating relative clauses and conditional-style reasoning (e.g., 'so they do not have to worry about food'). However, grammatical accuracy is weak, particularly regarding verb forms and non-standard derivations. The repetitive use of 'kepting' represents a fundamental structural and morphological error. Furthermore, passive voice constructions are sometimes awkwardly handled, such as 'Regular medical check-ups also conducted by them', which omits the auxiliary verb 'are'. Because errors are frequent and occasionally obscure the exact meaning of sentences, a Band 5.0 is appropriate.
