Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses the prompt by clearly taking a stance against closing zoos and providing reasons to support this view, such as educational value and scientific research. However, the development of ideas is limited and somewhat confused by frequent lexical and grammatical errors. The second main body paragraph attempts to link zoos to medical research and vaccine creation, which is a relevant idea, though it is expressed with significant strain. Examples provided, such as the mention of Sigmund Freud or a UNICEF survey from 2016, are somewhat tangential or incorrectly attributed, affecting the depth of task fulfilment. Overall, the ideas are present and a position is maintained, placing the response firmly at Band 5.0.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The response is organised into an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a brief conclusion, showing an awareness of paragraph structure. However, the logical progression is frequently disrupted by awkward transitions, mechanical cohesive devices (such as 'To begin with', 'To elucidate', 'To encapsulate'), and referencing errors. For instance, phrases like 'the impending paragraph' or 'that is why zoo are not prohibited' create confusion. Paragraphing is attempted, but internal cohesion is often faulty and repetitive, resulting in a score of 5.0.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is basic and prone to frequent errors in word choice, collocation, and form. Examples include 'arised' instead of 'arisen', 'dilusion' instead of 'delusion', and 'proffesionist' instead of 'professionals'. The writer attempts some less common items such as 'multifarious', 'psychoanalyst', and 'preservation', but these are often used inaccurately or forced into unnatural contexts. These noticeable errors and limited control over word formation cause some difficulty for the reader, aligning with the Band 5 descriptor.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0
The response features a very limited range of grammatical structures, and attempts at complex sentences are frequently faulty. There are persistent errors in subject-verb agreement ('zoo are closed', 'scientist wants'), tense consistency ('if the zoo are disappear'), and missing articles. For example, sentences such as 'our upgrowing childs are get into the trap of the misguidance they not even see many of animals' demonstrate a lack of control over basic syntax. Errors are very frequent and constantly impede communication, justifying a Band 4.0 for this criterion.
