Student answer (Band 5.5)

I disagree with the statement. We need to have animals kept in zoos in some important cases. Consequently , we can't shut down zoos permanently.

Different species have various types of requirement on the base of their situation in nature. Some species are safe in terms of surviving in nature. But there a lot of species ,they are endangered because of climate change, habitation insufficiency and so on reasons. If we don't take necessary steps to protect them ,they will disappear from nature like dianasor . As a result, nature will lost it's biodiversity. To preserve biodiversity, we need to protect those species who are becoming rare in natural habitation. They should be kept in exsito habitation to increase their population and protecting from disappearance .

Zoo is one of the exsito conservation types of animals. The rarest species are kept in zoos in order to conservation. Though various types of animals are kept in zoos, conservation is one of main goals of zoos. Considering the importance of conservation of different species, zoos should be remain open.

Besides this reason, zoos are one of the entertainment sectors for public, tourist and specially for children. Zoos are one of the main attraction of any country. Alongside , zoos are the treasure of nature of any country or state which demonstrate the natural diversity of that specific state. It portrays the richness of any specific regions natural biodiversity.

In conclusion, i strongly advocate that we need to have animals kept in zoos, so zoos should be remain open and continued it's role.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The candidate clearly addresses the prompt by stating a firm disagreement with the idea of closing zoos. A position is presented and maintained throughout the response. The main arguments—specifically animal conservation, protection of endangered species, and educational/entertainment value—are introduced and supported with relevant explanations. However, some ideas remain slightly under-developed; for example, the mention of biodiversity loss and ex-situ conservation is somewhat repetitive and lacks detailed examples or deeper elaboration. The response meets all basic requirements for a Band 6.0 standard by addressing all parts of the task with relevant, if somewhat generalised, ideas.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear stance established in the introduction and reinforced in the conclusion. Paragraphing is utilised to separate distinct points, such as conservation and tourism. However, cohesion is at times mechanical or faulty, as seen with transitions like 'Besides this reason' and repetitive sentence openings ('Zoos are...'). Referencing is occasionally unclear, and logical progression between sentences could be smoother. The use of cohesive devices is adequate for the task, but lacks the flexibility characteristic of a higher band, placing it squarely at Band 6.0.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The candidate demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'biodiversity', 'endangered', 'ex-situ conservation', and 'natural diversity'. However, there are noticeable word-choice, collocation, and phrasing errors, such as 'habitation insufficiency' (instead of habitat loss), 'lost it's' (possessive error), 'dianasor' (spelling of dinosaur), and 'zoos should be remain open'. These lexical and spelling inaccuracies reflect a standard consistent with Band 5.5, as vocabulary control is sometimes strained.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response features a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating attempts at subordination and conditional structures ('If we don't take necessary steps...'). However, there is a recurring pattern of grammatical errors, including punctuation misuse, subject-verb agreement issues ('zoos should be remain open'), and awkward phrasing. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent the writing from achieving a Band 6.0. The control of grammar is patchy, making Band 5.5 the most accurate descriptor.
