Student answer (Band 5.5)

In recent day, some spices are near to extinct for them zoos are the best place to live such as they can expand their population. I partially agree with that statment because keeping animals in zoos are make certain boundries for them.

To begin with, forest is the only place where animals can live with freedom as well the they feels comfortable among that kind of nature in addition to that animals like; lion, monkey, rabbits, deer and etc, if they live in forest so they can do anything they have no territory and they spend their time with their family. Apart from it, in some how zoos are unsafe place for animals beacuse big number of zoos has not enough fund to feed them due to that animals will die. However, if they living in comfortzone so by them self they can easily arreng their food.

However, some animals like; lapord, pandas, white tiger etc need to live in zoos beacuse they are near to extinct.we should not close all zoos because modern zoos do a lot of good work. Their main job is to protect endangered animals from dying out. They breed animals safely and sometimes release them back into the wild. Furthermore, when children and families visit zoos, they learn to love nature and want to protect wildlife. Without these zoos, many rare animals might disappear forever.

To conclude, I believe that we should not close every zoo. We must close down the zoos that keep animals in bad conditions just to make money. However, we should support modern zoos that focus on animal welfare and conservation.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt by discussing both sides of the argument regarding whether zoos should be closed, and the writer clearly takes a partial position. Ideas are presented regarding animal welfare, extinction, and education. However, some arguments are underdeveloped or overly simplistic, such as the claim that zoos are unsafe simply due to a lack of funds or that animals in forests can 'do anything'. Key terms like 'spices' instead of 'species' show some confusion. The response covers all parts of the task appropriately, maintaining a consistent viewpoint throughout, placing it firmly within the Band 6 descriptor category for task response.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is arranged into logical paragraphs, with an introduction, body paragraphs addressing opposing views, and a conclusion. Transitional phrases such as 'To begin with', 'Apart from it', and 'To conclude' are utilized to guide the reader through the text, although some cohesive devices feel slightly mechanical or are grammatically awkward (e.g., 'in some how'). Referencing is generally clear, though occasional misuse of conjunctions occasionally disrupts the natural flow of ideas. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately, demonstrating overall coherence that aligns with a Band 6 score.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully incorporating terms related to the topic such as 'endangered animals', 'animal welfare', and 'conservation'. However, there are numerous spelling and word-choice errors, such as 'spices' for 'species', 'statment', 'boundries', 'beacuse', 'lapord', and 'arreng'. Less common vocabulary is attempted with noticeable inaccuracy, and these errors occasionally distract the reader, though they do not completely impede communication. These characteristics are typical of a Band 5 performance for lexical resource.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting complex structures with relative clauses ('animals like; lion, monkey... if they live in forest so they can do anything'). However, there are frequent grammatical errors involving article usage, subject-verb agreement, and prepositional phrases, such as 'keeping animals in zoos are make', 'in forest', and 'if they living in comfortzone'. Punctuation is also flawed with unnecessary semicolons and run-on structures. Because errors are frequent and occasionally cause difficulty for the reader despite a mix of structures, a Band 5 is appropriate.
