Student answer (Band 5.0)
The Freedom for everyone
The man is a social animal as they say and it's almost true! but what would you say for the Animals? I would say animals are social Animals too because they need the freedom, so why would you keep them in prisons called The Zoo!
For the hundreds of years the topic of zoos have become controversial, some would say the zoos are important for us because we need to understand animals and the zoos make that possible also we can see animals closer in zoos. but for me it goes almost opposite,
First of all the zoos take the freedom and the life of Animals second in zoos animals live harsh lives for example according to a survey the number of animals die in zoos are greater than the number of animals in jungles lastly why would someone die or live a terrible life because of someones happiness like we people.
So in the end everyone deserves a life they want and for animals it's in jungles not the human made zoos. so it's almost certain and thinkable that the zoos should be closed and i future we shouldn't make the prisons for animals called the zoo!

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The student attempts to address the prompt regarding whether zoos should be closed, taking a clear stance against zoos by arguing that they deprive animals of freedom. However, the response fails to meet the minimum length requirement of 250 words, containing only 202 words. This results in under-development of ideas, as the arguments are presented superficially without adequate extension or supporting examples beyond a vague mention of a survey. The conclusion reiterates the stance, but the overall lack of word count and depth prevents the response from achieving a higher band. To improve, the writer must expand on their main points with detailed explanations and fully developed supporting evidence to satisfy the task requirements completely.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay displays a basic level of organization, with an introduction, a body paragraph, and a concluding remark, but paragraphing is weak and unconventional. The body paragraph is a single massive run-on section containing multiple distinct ideas that should be separated into individual paragraphs. Cohesive devices are either missing or overly simplistic, relying heavily on conversational transition phrases like 'First of all,' 'second,' and 'lastly,' with improper punctuation around them. Furthermore, referencing is sometimes unclear, particularly with pronouns like 'someone's happiness like we people.' While there is a logical progression of thought from introduction to conclusion, the faulty paragraphing and mechanical cohesion pull this criterion down to a band 5.5.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The student demonstrates a limited, basic vocabulary range that is minimally adequate for the task. Words such as 'freedom,' 'social,' 'prisons,' and 'terrible' are repeated rather than varied. There are noticeable lexical inaccuracies and awkward collocations, such as 'The man is a social animal as they say' and 'the number of animals die in zoos are greater.' While the language allows the writer to convey a simple message, the lack of flexibility and precision, alongside frequent word choice issues, places this firmly at band 5.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The writing contains a very limited range of sentence structures, dominated by run-on sentences and comma splices, such as in the opening and closing paragraphs. There is an overreliance on simple or poorly linked clauses. Grammatical errors are frequent; for instance, 'the topic of zoos have become controversial' exhibits subject-verb agreement errors, and punctuation is largely ignored or misused throughout. Although some complex ideas are attempted, the high frequency of structural and mechanical errors causes occasional difficulty for the reader, justifying a band score of 5.0.
