Student answer (Band 5.5)

It is often argued by some people that there is no longer need to have animals kept in zoos , so zoos should be closed. I completely disagree with this notion because i think zoos are important for safey of endangered species and for educational purposes.

First of all, zoos are important for educational purposes. Now a days many school institutions conduct trips of zoos by which student learn about the diversity of animals and they become more familiar with their attitude that is much necessary for children to love with them. For instance, If people could not know about an animals how they became attach with them. If we could not learn about their habits how we become properitor of an animal, thats why zoos are significant for people.

Secondly, zoos contain animals that are now become endangered are become extinct in the future, thats why for safey of these species zoos are important.

For example, the specie of panda become rare in the world, and now only in china they are present in special conditions for safety of the specie. Only 300 panda are left now on the planet earth, and if we could not save them they become extinct, and we are not able to see such a unique creature of god.

In conclusion, I belief that zoos are important for safety of these species and also for educational benefits for the new borns.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by clearly taking a position against closing zoos, supporting this with two main arguments: education and the conservation of endangered species. Ideas are introduced and supported with examples, such as pandas in China and school trips. However, the development remains somewhat limited and simplistic, lacking deeper elaboration. Crucially, the Length Check reports that the response contains only 237 words, failing to reach the minimum 250-word requirement. This under-length issue prevents the ideas from being fully extended and caps the task achievement score. Therefore, a band score of 5.5 is awarded.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The essay is divided into an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a brief conclusion, providing a basic overall structure. Paragraphing is utilised to separate the distinct points. Cohesive devices are employed, such as 'First of all,' 'Secondly,' and 'In conclusion,' though some referencing and transitional links feel repetitive or mechanical (e.g., repeating 'thats why'). Logical progression is maintained from the introduction of the stance to the supporting reasons, although the abrupt nature of the short paragraphs impacts overall flow. This performance aligns best with the Band 6 descriptors.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully using terms such as 'endangered species,' 'diversity,' 'extinct,' and 'creature.' However, there are noticeable word-choice, spelling, and collocation errors, such as 'safey' instead of safety, 'Now a days' instead of nowadays, 'attitude' instead of behaviour, and 'properitor' instead of a correct phrasing like 'caretaker' or 'owner.' These errors do not seriously impede communication but restrict the vocabulary score to a Band 5.5.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The text contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as conditional forms ('if we could not save them they become extinct'). There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the response, including missing articles (e.g., 'in china', 'on planet earth'), incorrect subject-verb agreement ('the specie... become'), and faulty punctuation. While these errors do not completely obscure the writer's meaning, they occur frequently and indicate a lack of reliable control over complex syntax. This corresponds to a Band 5.0.
