Student answer (Band 4.5)
Many people belive that animals should not keep in zoos, which it should be closed. I believe animals have to keep in zoos but there should be no cage for them which i agree.
The animals have to free will to be in wild forest jungle life around the nature if people want to see their habitat life goverment have to provide transportation to observe animals habitat, which we can observe and study more about animals habitat life which their should zoos but in manner which should be fair on human and animals life which will be benefit for both humans will learn on animals life behaviour and animals will be live a peacefull life in the place by professional am vertinary doctor i have observed animal show more complex behaviour in open jungle instead of keeping in cage because animals do not show attention if we put them in the cage.
The animals should not be in cage they also have emotional health problem which a normal person cannot be see but through a research animals who are the prison they do want to leave and which they will die also extinction start upon, animals have their own emotional which humans have to give important to animals emotionals also thorugh my research keeping animals in cage they don not show more complex behaviour also we cannot study upon animals.
In my conclusion animals should in forest life and goverment has to improvise in zoos because it is important for poeple to learn on animals life how they live and work.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The candidate attempts to address the prompt regarding whether zoos should be closed, presenting a position that animals should be kept without cages or observed in the wild. However, the development of ideas is limited and at times confusing. For instance, the transition from suggesting zoos should be closed to arguing they should exist without cages lacks clear logical elaboration. Furthermore, the argument is somewhat repetitive, returning frequently to the idea of cages and emotional health without introducing new, well-supported dimensions. While the student touches on relevant themes such as animal welfare, education, and observation, the execution remains underdeveloped. These limitations place the performance firmly at a Band 5.0, as the task is addressed only partially and the stance is obscured by weak articulation and limited supporting evidence.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
The response exhibits significant issues with cohesion and paragraphing. The text is divided into four very long, dense paragraphs, but internal progression is frequently disrupted by run-on sentences and a lack of appropriate punctuation. For example, the second paragraph consists of a single, highly convoluted sentence that strings multiple independent clauses together using commas rather than conjunctions or full stops (e.g., '...goverment have to provide transportation to observe animals habitat, which we can observe and study more about animals habitat life which their should zoos but in manner...'). Cohesive devices are either missing, inadequate, or repetitive, making the flow difficult to follow. Paragraphing is attempted, but the internal logical links within each section are weak. Consequently, the organization lacks overall progression, justifying a band score of 4.0.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.0
The vocabulary used is basic, repetitive, and restricted in range. Words such as 'animals', 'life', 'habitat', 'cage', and 'research' are used repeatedly throughout the text without adequate variation or precision. There are also noticeable lexical errors and inappropriate word choices, such as 'belive' instead of believe, 'wild forest jungle life', and referring to a professional as 'am vertinary doctor'. Furthermore, collocation is weak, seen in phrases like 'extinction start upon' and 'give important to animals emotionals'. These lexical inadequacies and frequent spelling errors often cause strain and confusion for the reader, fitting the descriptors for Band 4.0, where vocabulary is basic and repetitive.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.0
Grammatical control is weak throughout the response. The text relies heavily on simple sentence structures or extremely long, faulty complex structures strung together with commas, resulting in severe run-on sentences. There is a lack of accurate control over basic grammatical forms, including subject-verb agreement ('animals should in forest life', 'government has to improvise'), tense consistency, and prepositions. Punctuation is largely neglected, with missing periods and capital letters at sentence boundaries. Because errors are frequent, severe, and frequently distort meaning or impede communication, the performance aligns with Band 4.0 for grammar.
