Student answer (Band 5.5)
Some people think that, we no longer need to have animals kept in zoos, therefore zoos should be closed. They believe that, people nowadays are not much interested in visiting zoos.
However, i totally agree with this statement. These days, people are usually very busy in their hectic routine, and they find it very difficult to spare some time, to visit zoo along with the children. In addition, children are also not keen of watching animals. Modern facilititis such as mobile phones and internet have engaged children too much.
For instance, i used to visit zoo with my parents few years back, but as i gradullay grown up, i lost my love for animals. In contrast to that, essential care of animals is not taken in zoos, which results in death of several animals, apart from that by keeping animals in cages, their natural habitat is disturbed. A report was published by National Geoghraphic in 2025, which suggests that, more than 18 species of monkeys have gone extinct, by not taking proper care of them in zoos around the world. In Pakistan, last female individual of African Rhino was found dead, as a result no more specie of African Rhino exists in Pakistan.
Subsequently, global warming has caused significant health disorders, in numerous animals.
Animals in wildlife, sustain better life in contrast to zoos. While at the other hand some animals can be kept in zoos, if they are suffering from injury or any disease.
In summary, i believe that keeping animals locked inside the cages is, causing drastic effects on their existence.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the task and establishes a clear overall position agreeing that zoos should be closed. However, some ideas are more fully developed than others, which is characteristic of this level. While the writer touches on valid points regarding animal welfare and natural habitats, some arguments rely on limited or unsupported assertions, such as the claim that children are no longer interested in animals due to mobile phones. To reach a higher level, the ideas need to be more thoroughly extended with robust examples and deeper analysis, rather than shifting rapidly between disparate points like children's screen time, specific extinction data, and isolated animal injuries.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement and attempts to organise ideas into logical paragraphs, yet the progression of ideas is sometimes mechanical or disjointed. Cohesive devices are used, but their application is occasionally faulty or repetitive, leading to a choppy flow between sentences. For example, transitional phrases like 'In addition', 'In contrast to that', and 'Subsequently' are introduced without entirely smooth logical bridges connecting the surrounding arguments. Furthermore, referencing is not always clear, particularly when shifting abruptly from societal habits to specific wildlife statistics. Better paragraph structuring and more natural transitions would greatly enhance the overall flow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary suitable for addressing the prompt, attempting some less common items such as 'hectic routine', 'natural habitat', and 'extinct'. However, there are noticeable limitations in lexical control, including word choice errors and incorrect word forms like 'gradullay' instead of gradually, 'facilititis' instead of facilities, and 'specie' instead of species. While these occasional inaccuracies and spelling slips do not severely impede communication, they reflect a limited precision in collocation and vocabulary usage. Expanding the range of precise academic vocabulary and ensuring accurate word forms would lift this aspect further.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writing displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, though attempts at complex structures are often accompanied by punctuation and structural errors. There are frequent punctuation issues, such as unnecessary commas interrupting the flow of clauses, as seen in 'Some people think that, we no longer need...' and 'In summary, i believe that keeping animals...'. Additionally, pronoun capitalization errors occur with 'i', and there are minor structural awkwardness issues in sentences like 'last female individual of African Rhino was found dead'. These errors persist throughout the text, though they rarely impede the overall communication of the writer's ideas.
