Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position against closing zoos, supporting it with reasons such as educational opportunities and scientific research. However, the ideas are presented in a limited and under-developed manner. For instance, the argument regarding research lacks specific elaboration or concrete examples, relying instead on repetitive assertions about accessing animals easily. Furthermore, some arguments drift into odd or unsupported claims, such as the idea that closing zoos would cause widespread danger from released animals roaming freely. While the main stance is clear, the overall development of ideas remains restricted, keeping the task response at a partial level of fulfillment.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The essay displays some organizational structure with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. However, there is a lack of clear overall progression, and the logical flow between sentences is occasionally hindered by mechanical or repetitive use of cohesive devices. Transitional phrases such as 'To commence with', 'To elaborate further', and 'Secondly' are used to signal structure, but referencing within sentences is sometimes unclear, such as the ambiguous pronoun use in 'especially it has beneficial'. Paragraphing is attempted, but the grouping of ideas lacks smooth transitions, resulting in a somewhat disjointed progression of thought throughout the text.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited but minimally adequate to convey the basic message. There are noticeable errors in word choice, spelling, and word formation that occasionally cause difficulty for the reader. Examples include spelling mistakes like 'Kepping' and 'significante', as well as awkward word formations and collocations such as 'pecking it on forests', 'careed out', and 'reseachers'. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary items like 'state of the art', but inaccurate usage and slips in word forms restrict the lexical range and precision needed for a higher score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writing demonstrates a limited range of sentence structures, with frequent reliance on basic patterns and faulty attempts at complex sentences. There are numerous grammatical errors involving verb forms, tenses, subject-verb agreement, and articles. Examples of structural and grammatical inaccuracies include 'do not have to kept animal', 'closing zoos can make many more obstacles', 'will definitely cause our nature', and 'research on different kinds of animals will be make far more difficult'.
