Student answer (Band 6.0)

People nowadays are more environmental aware including the caring and fighting for animal rights. Personally, i partly disagree with the closure of wildparks because it has become conservatory for animals and learning ground especially for young children.

The primary benefit of wildparks is conservatory. It became a place for animals especially the endangered ones to keep them safe and place for breeding. There are higher possibilities that they can be taken care and monitor their health status because of in house veterinarians and workers that feeds them. As a result, animals can live healthier and can breed more because they are protected from predators. Furthermore, zoos have been vital for children's learning because they are exposed to different kinds of animals. Chances of seeing wilds have been become more accessible and safe for the public. Lastly, closure of wildparks can lead to job loss. A lot of workers will suffer from financial issues if this happens.

Despite the advantages of keeping wildparks, animal freedom should also take in to consideration. Animals have the right to live on their natural habitat in order for to survive naturally and help in maintaining ecosystem. Animals that live in the wild, can help in population control of other species, preventing certain species from becoming overpopulated.

In conclusion, I partly disagree in closure of wildparks because zoos have become a safe place for animals and a breeding ground for certain species. Aside from that, it gives job opportunities to a lot of workers. However, animal freedom must not be taken for granted because of its vital role in maintaining the ecosystem.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the task by presenting a clear position on whether zoos should be closed, arguing both for their conservation benefits and against them due to animal freedom. The main ideas are generally relevant, but some parts are under-developed rather than fully extended. For instance, the point about job losses is mentioned briefly without much elaboration, and the discussion on the ecosystem could be further supported with concrete examples. To reach a higher level, the writer needs to fully develop all ideas with deeper explanations and more specific supporting details.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear stance established in the introduction and reinforced in the conclusion. Paragraphing is used sufficiently to separate main ideas, such as the benefits of zoos in the second paragraph and the counter-arguments regarding animal freedom in the third paragraph. However, cohesion at times feels a bit mechanical or repetitive, with transitions like 'Furthermore' and 'Lastly' driving the structure rather than smooth conceptual links. Referencing is generally clear, though occasional mechanical links prevent the progression from feeling entirely natural. To improve, the writer should integrate cohesive devices more flexibly and ensure seamless transitions between sentences.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'conservatory', 'endangered ones', and 'predators'. However, there are notable inaccuracies in word choice and collocations, such as 'environmental aware' instead of 'environmentally aware', 'wildparks' used inconsistently, and phrasing like 'animal freedom should also take in to consideration'. There are also occasional word form and spelling issues that highlight limitations in lexical control. To achieve a higher score, the writer needs to expand their range of less common vocabulary and use precise collocations more accurately.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The response demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting structures such as conditional and relative clauses. There are several errors in grammar and punctuation throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues like 'workers that feeds them', missing articles such as 'in order for to survive naturally', and preposition errors like 'disagree in closure'. Fortunately, these errors rarely impede overall communication. To move up to the next band, the writer must produce a greater proportion of error-free sentences and demonstrate tighter control over complex grammatical patterns and prepositions.
