Student answer (Band 6.0)

This debate has been growing in the contemporary era, where few individuals argue that animals should not be kept in the zoos and zoos should be closed permanently. As, zoo is one of the most secure place for animals and I firmly disagree with this point of view.

On the one hand, zoo is consider as one of the best educational and entertainment institution. People visit there along their offsprings and get the information about different animals. They can learn about the nature of wild animals and play with small ones such as horses. To illustrate further, when I was child I usually visited zoo atleast once a month and I vividly remembered that huge crowd gathered around elephant cage where they touches their trunk and enjoyed. Furthermore, animals feel more secure their they live without the fear of being hunted by hunters.

In addition to this, zoos play significant role to preserve the extint species of the animals and zoologists work on their breeding process under control environment in order to increase the population of such species. White Rhinos, for example, team of the zoologists in the national zoo of Africa working on their breeding and they get positive results. Their population increases significantly in last few years.

Moreover, zoo could play important role to earn revenue, the amount come from the entry tickets sholud be consumed forthe welfare of the animals.

To conclude, zoo should not be closed because they are extremely important for the animals and human get benefits by visiting there and they could take part in the cognitive development of the childs.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

The response successfully addresses all parts of the task and maintains a clear position throughout, explicitly stating a disagreement with the prompt. The ideas presented are generally well extended and supported, moving beyond mere generalisations to offer relevant arguments. For instance, the writer discusses the educational and entertainment value of zoos and touches upon their role in conservation and revenue generation. However, some arguments display a tendency to over-generalise or remain slightly under-developed, such as the brief mention of revenue where the link to animal welfare is not fully explored. To reach the next level, all ideas would need deeper elaboration and more precise real-world examples to thoroughly substantiate every claim without any trace of over-simplification.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay demonstrates a clear overall progression and logical organisation throughout, successfully bridging the gap between Band 6 and Band 7. The writer effectively uses paragraphing to structure the response, grouping ideas into distinct introduction, body, and conclusion sections. Cohesive devices are employed to connect sentences, such as 'On the one hand', 'In addition to this', and 'To conclude'. However, referencing and cohesion occasionally feel a bit mechanical or slightly awkward, such as starting a sentence with 'As, zoo is one of the most secure place'. While the overall arrangement is coherent, achieving a higher band would require smoother, more flexible transitions between ideas and flawless referencing to ensure the flow is entirely natural and unobtrusive.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The writer displays an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common items such as 'contemporary era', 'cognitive development', and 'extint species'. However, there are noticeable limitations and inaccuracies in word choice, collocation, and spelling that reflect a mid-level performance. Examples of lexical slips include spelling errors like 'extint' instead of 'extinct', awkward collocations such as 'control environment' instead of 'controlled environment', and grammatical word-form issues like 'childs' instead of 'children'. While these errors do not severely impede communication, they restrict the score. To improve this area, the writer should focus on expanding word-formation knowledge, mastering precise collocations, and eliminating basic spelling mistakes.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The response features a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating an attempt at varied syntactic structures. There are several error-free sentences, particularly in straightforward contexts, and the overall meaning remains clear despite persistent errors. However, frequent grammatical lapses prevent a higher rating. Issues include article omission and misuse, such as 'zoo is consider as one of the best' and 'in national zoo of Africa', pluralisation errors like 'human get benefits', and prepositional inaccuracies within patterns like 'feel more secure their they live'. Furthermore, sentence boundary issues and awkward relative clauses occur. To progress, the writer needs to exert tighter control over verb forms, articles, and prepositions while increasing the accuracy of complex sentence constructions.
