Student answer (Band 5.5)
Zoo has always been an attractive place to visit both by children and adults. However some people argues that we no longer need to have animals kept in zoos, so zoos should be closed. I strongly disagree with this trend as zoo is the only place where animals can be kept and provided with all necessities of life.
Every living creature needs a place for shelter whether it human or animals. We all belong to same family Animalia Kingdom. So having a basic food, shelte, air, water are our basic necessities. Like we have families animals too have families. But the only difference between us and animals is that they can't provide these basic necessities to their families and children. So keeping them in a zoo has been the only solution to provide these creatures all the basic necessities of life.
Providing basic necessities is not only reason for keeping zoos. There is different types of animals some are wild animals while others are farm animals. Some animals can live on farms from which human get milk, wool , meat. Some of them help in farming and protection such as dog. Incontrast, wild animals are dangerous for humans and they can eat flesh of not only human but also other animals which are their prey. So their lies one of benefit of keeping them in a zoo to save human lives as well as other animals lives.
Learning about different species of animals has always been fascinate by children. They love to visit them in real and always enjoys visiting zoo and learn about different species of animals. In most of coountries, ther is a special zoo staff who guide and teach the visitors about all the species of animals.
In conclusion, we humans and animals both need zoos. Keeping animals in a zoo and providing them basic life necessaties is the right of government. Being a human we also have to takecare of animals as we can.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear stance against closing zoos, noting that 15 words copied from the prompt were not counted. However, the task is only partially addressed because the ideas remain limited and under-developed. For instance, the argument that zoos are necessary to provide basic life necessities is repetitive and lacks extension or deep exploration. Similarly, the distinction between wild and farm animals is somewhat confused, and the point about keeping wild animals in zoos to save human lives is asserted without robust justification or relevant real-world examples. To move to a higher level, the writer would need to fully develop their main arguments with well-supported explanations and specific examples rather than relying on generalized statements.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
There is some basic organization with an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion, but the essay lacks a clear overall progression. The movement between ideas feels disjointed, particularly in the third paragraph where the transition from farm animals to wild animals is abrupt and confusing ("Incontrast, wild animals..."). Cohesive devices are used rather mechanically and sometimes inaccurately, such as the repetitive use of additive structures or weak transitional links. Paragraphing is attempted, but internal paragraph cohesion needs strengthening to ensure ideas flow logically from one sentence to the next. To achieve a higher score, the writer should employ a wider and more accurate range of cohesive devices and ensure that each paragraph builds logically toward a central theme.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited but minimally adequate to convey the basic message. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary, such as "necessities," "species," and "fascination," but these attempts are accompanied by noticeable word-choice errors, incorrect word forms, and spelling mistakes (e.g., "fascinate" instead of *fascinating*, "coountries," "ther," "takecare"). Furthermore, collocations are occasionally awkward, such as "provides all necessities of life" or "their lies one of benefit." These lexical inaccuracies and spelling errors sometimes cause difficulty for the reader. To improve, the student needs to expand their range of vocabulary, pay closer attention to word forms and parts of speech, and practice accurate spelling.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response displays a limited range of grammatical structures, relying heavily on simple sentences and straightforward coordination. While there are some attempts at complex sentences, these are frequently faulty or structurally clumsy, such as in conditional or causal clauses. There are frequent grammatical errors involving articles, subject-verb agreement, and prepositions (e.g., "Zoo has always been," "whether it human or animals," "belong to same family," "having a basic food, shelte, air, water"). Punctuation and spacing errors, such as missing spaces after commas, also detract from the quality of writing. These frequent errors cause occasional difficulty for the reader. To progress, the writer should practice forming accurate complex sentences and refine their control over basic grammatical agreements and article usage.
