Student answer (Band 6.5)
In many countries, there is a trend of caging animals in a man made habitat to commercialize the space. Although these space are exciting to visit, it has adverse effect on the animal's nature. I strongly believe that zoos should be shut down because of it's effect on animals characterstics and population.
One of many reasons to close zoo is the detrimental effect it has on animal's natural behavior. Those caged species who once lived in a jungle, have their own set of characterstics. In a zoo, they are forced to limit themselves which causes abnormality in their behaviour and even reducing their life span. For example, a bear who is a carnivore is brought into the zoo, where they don't have to hunt for food. Consequently, it results in the decrease in drive of the hunt leading to loss of it's natural characterstics.
Another reason to scrape the concept of zoo could be the decline in animal population throughout the world. In order to commercialize, the mafias import and export rare species of animals internationally which can impact that particular animal and it's group. Animals are also social beings and sometimes these seperation can affect them more than we can imagine. For instance, if already a rare species like Red Panda is migrated to a country which is not suitable for it's growth we can loose that remaining few number of animals as well. As a result, it can become extinct.
To conclude, animals who are also a social being should be protected in their natural habitat, where they can demonstrate their default nature and live to their maximum age.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
The response addresses all parts of the task by presenting a clear position throughout that zoos should be closed. The main arguments regarding animal behavior and population decline are relevant and supported with explanations and examples, such as the mention of a bear and the Red Panda. However, there is a slight tendency to over-generalize, for instance when referring to international mafias, which prevents the content from reaching a higher level of development. The ideas are extended well enough to maintain a clear line of argument, but some assertions lack the depth and nuance required for top-tier performance.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
There is a clear logical organization and progression throughout the essay. The introduction establishes the writer's stance, and each body paragraph focuses on a distinct main point, moving logically from behavioral impacts to population concerns, followed by a summary conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'One of many reasons', 'Another reason', and 'As a result' are used to guide the reader, although referencing is occasionally slightly loose, such as the pronoun use in 'these space' and 'this seperation'. Paragraphing is managed effectively, with each paragraph serving a clear, distinct function in the overall structure of the argument.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The writer demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common items such as 'commercialize', 'detrimental', 'characterstics', and 'extinct'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word-choice errors that detract from precision. Examples include 'characterstics' instead of 'characteristics', 'seperation' instead of 'separation', and 'loose' instead of 'lose'. Additionally, phrasing like 'mafias import and export rare species' shows limitations in collocation and naturalness. While these vocabulary and spelling slips do not severely impede communication, they restrict the lexical score by preventing consistently accurate use of sophisticated terms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The text displays a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, featuring relative clauses and conditional-style examples. However, control over grammatical structures and mechanics is inconsistent. There are several recurring errors with subject-verb agreement and articles, such as 'Although these space are exciting' instead of 'spaces', 'effect on the animal's nature' instead of plural forms, and misuse of possessive apostrophes ('animal's nature' versus plural animals). Punctuation and minor structural slips also occur, such as missing commas after introductory phrases. These errors represent a mix of error-free sentences alongside frequent minor slips that hold the grammar score at this level.
