Student answer (Band 6.0)

In this contemporary era, it is often argued that there is now no longer need to kept animals in zoos and zoos should be close. However, i completely believe to keep the animals in the zoos to keep them safe and reduced the species to become endangered.

One of my key reason to supports my view is the safety. To elaborate this, in the recent times because of constant increase in global warming in the high temperature the animals don't have enough abilities to survive in the wild life so keeping them in the zoos can be more beneficial for them. Moreover, keeping them in the zoos allow the caretaker to care the animals effectively and when any of the animals affected from any kind of diseases, the instant medical checkup can be done by specialize zoos doctors. Furthermore, it becomes tough for the animals to stay alert from the human killers who kills them for the selling purpose in the international black market. For instance, elephants are hunted because of their tusks from which wide variety of decorative and luxury items are made because of their density smoothness and ability to hold fine details respectively. Hence it is very safe for them to live in the zoos.

Another key reason to support my opinion is reduced the number of species to become endangered. To explain it further, owing to the viral infection and fatal diseases in the wild resulted in loosing their precious lives. Moreover, hunted by other big animals can be another cause that throws the animals in endangered it. So, putting the animals into zoos allows them to breeding and let their generation witness continuous rise. Final reason that holds my opinion is education. To detail it out, keeping the animals in the zoos allow the visitors to gain deep knowledge about animals by seeing them and by observing them very closely.

Conclusively, i significantly believe that keeping animals in the zoos has only benefits such as their safety, reduced the numbers of endangered species and gaining knowledge while observing them.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by clearly stating a position from the beginning and maintaining it throughout the essay. The writer presents a clear stance against closing zoos and supports this with several extended ideas, such as safety from global warming, veterinary care, protection from poachers, and educational value. While some arguments, such as the point about breeding and education, tend to be slightly generalised or briefly stated rather than fully explored, the overall presentation of ideas fulfills the requirements well. To reach a higher level, the writer would need to fully develop every single supporting point with deeper explanation and more precise real-world examples rather than leaving some ideas slightly under-developed.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay presents a clear overall logical organisation and progression throughout. The writer uses standard cohesive devices to structure the response, such as 'One of my key reason', 'Moreover', and 'Furthermore', which guide the reader reasonably well through the arguments. Paragraphing is used sufficiently to separate the introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion. However, cohesion can sometimes feel mechanical or repetitive in its transitional phrases. Referencing is generally clear, though occasional stiffness in linking sentences prevents the essay from achieving a fully seamless flow. To move up, the writer should employ a wider variety of sophisticated cohesive devices and ensure smoother transitions between paragraphs.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The writer demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'endangered', 'global warming', and 'international black market'. However, there are noticeable limitations and inaccuracies in word choice, collocation, and word formation. Examples of lexical slips include 'to kept animals', 'specialize zoos doctors', and 'reduce the number of species to become endangered', where incorrect forms are used. Additionally, spelling and word-form errors occur throughout the text, such as 'loosing' instead of 'losing'. These errors do not seriously impede communication, but they restrict the lexical score because the control of less common vocabulary lacks precision.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some ambition in sentence structure through relative clauses and conditional-like constructions. However, there is a frequent occurrence of grammatical errors, particularly regarding verb forms, infinitive structures, and prepositions inside grammatical patterns, such as 'i completely believe to keep' instead of 'keeping', and 'reasons to supports' instead of 'support'. Article usage and pluralisation are also inconsistent, seen in phrases like 'in the high temperature' and 'specialized zoos doctors'. These frequent errors in grammar require some effort from the reader to decode, which places the response firmly within this band. To improve, the writer needs to increase accuracy and exercise better control over basic and complex sentence structures alike.
