Student answer (Band 5.5)

The statement states that it's not neccesary to build zoos and place animals in it moreover we have to close the zoos.

I agreed to above statement because i think animals should have to live in forest or in the open area like fish have to live in sea and lion in his deen. It's not comfortable for them to keep them in cage or in a limited place. It causes several problems to their quality and effeciency of work. It also may damade food chain cycle that leads us to the disaster. For instance, If we keep secondary animals in the zoo so it causes a huge increase in animals of primary level. So,it disturbs our biosphere. If we consider another example;Big fish eat smaller ones that keep their conentration balanced but if we take the big fish it also causes a severe problem to aquatic ecosystem.

To some extent,I disagreed with this idea because some animals are on its endangered situation such as snow leopard and some are in critically endangered phase like tiger. So,it's important to keep them in a safe environment to look after the particular species and reproduce more species. The main reason of that not having a suitable habitat or loss of habitat which is due to deforestation. So,in zoo they will live safely and also we don't have any fear of losing any kind of animal's species.

For instance, now due to internet towers sparrow's species is disappearing and there is a threat of there extinction. So, it will be helpful to kep them in zoo.

In conclusion,It is my humble prospective to keep only those animal who are about to extinct like tiger, snow leopard and others moreover free or leave the other animalsin the forest we just keep for exhibition and just for show off. So,don't close the zoos which are opened to serve or protect animals and close the rest which just doing their business only.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both sides of the argument before reaching a conclusion. A position is presented, stating that while most zoos should close, some should remain open for conservation. However, the development of ideas is uneven. For instance, the arguments regarding the food chain, such as secondary animals and big fish, are under-developed and lack clear logical progression in connection to zoos. Similarly, the example of sparrow populations and internet towers touches upon a relevant point, but it remains somewhat generalized. To move to a higher level, the ideas would need to be more fully extended and supported with clearer, more precise reasoning throughout the essay.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear attempt to structure the discussion into introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion. Paragraphing is used to separate different viewpoints, moving from the argument for closing zoos to the opposing view. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical or faulty. Devices such as 'For instance' and 'So' are overused to link sentences, and referencing is not always clear, as seen in pronoun usage and abrupt transitions between ideas. To achieve a higher band, the progression of thoughts needs to be smoother, and a more varied and natural range of cohesive devices should be employed without relying on repetitive connectors.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'biodiversity', 'ecosystem', 'endangered situation', and 'conservation'. However, there are noticeable limitations and inaccuracies in word choice, collocation, and word form, such as 'neccesary', 'deen' instead of 'den', 'damade', 'effeciency', 'conentration', and 'prospective' instead of 'perspective'. There are also spelling errors throughout the text, including 'kep' and 'extinct'. While communication is not severely impeded, these errors and awkward collocations prevent the lexical resource from reaching a higher level of precision and natural control.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting structures such as conditional and relative clauses. However, there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation. Issues include subject-verb agreement errors like 'some animals are on its endangered situation', article misuse, missing commas, and run-on sentences with incorrect punctuation, such as 'So,it disturbs our biosphere. If we consider another example;Big fish eat smaller ones'. While these errors rarely completely impede communication, they occur regularly enough to restrict the response, as the majority of sentences are not error-free and control over complex grammatical structures lacks consistency.
