Student answer (Band 5.5)
Many individuals have argued on that animals should be free in their natural habitat. They should not be confined in any caged or zoos. I firmly agree that animals should allow to stay or spend life in forest moreover it also instantly leads to save any endangered species.
Zoos are basically created for the source of entertainment and some extent for educational purpose so that anyone visiting can see and evaluate. But this does not seems right to keep any animals within the small territory. Many animals died earlier than expected as they are bound to leave family and there habitat respectively. For example, a research shown baby elephant who was bought to zoo far away from their family suffered from depression which ultimately start to detrimental it's health and died earlier.
When animals are on their own habitat they tend to learn and grow as they were supposed to. They can explore and behave as per there respective nature. They will develop there character only by staying with there own herds and learning from there own generations. Furthermore, if the animals are maintain with the forest then our overall eco-system improves which often facilitate to maintain the endangered animals. For an instance, population of snow leopard in himlayas has declined gradually as per the article, once it was brought into zoo but it could not adapt the environment and temprature does not favour accordingly it leads to death. Therefore, if we leave them as in their place it will not be endangered.
In conclusion, zoo takes the freedom of animals which utlimately results to impact on there health and there is high chance that animal can be endangered

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the task by presenting a clear position agreeing that zoos should be closed. Relevant ideas are introduced, such as the entertainment versus education debate and the impact of captivity on animal health and endangered species. However, some ideas remain under-developed or inadequately supported. For example, the mention of the snow leopard in the Himalayas is a relevant real-world example, but the explanation regarding temperature and environment lacks specific detail and logical extension. To reach a higher level, the writer would need to fully develop every supporting point with deeper analysis and more precise argumentation rather than relying on general assertions.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear stance established in the introduction and reinforced in the conclusion. Paragraphing is utilised to separate distinct points, such as the purpose of zoos in the second paragraph and the benefits of natural habitats in the third. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical or faulty. Referencing is occasionally unclear, as seen in phrases like 'it starts to detrimental' and vague pronoun usage referring back to animal populations. Cohesive devices are used, but their application lacks smooth progression in places, leading to abrupt transitions between sentences. Enhancing logical links and ensuring precise pronoun reference would improve the overall flow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, providing enough range to communicate basic arguments about animal welfare and natural habitats. The writer attempts less common vocabulary, such as 'endangered species', 'ecosystem', and 'territory', but these attempts are frequently accompanied by noticeable errors in word choice, form, and collocation. Examples include 'leave family' instead of 'leave their families', 'detrimental it's health' instead of 'detriment to its health', and 'temperature does not favour accordingly'. Spelling and word-choice errors occur throughout the text, though they generally do not impede overall communication. A wider, more precise control of lexical items and correct word forms is required to progress further.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting structures such as conditional clauses ('if the animals are maintain with the forest then...') and relative clauses. However, there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation that occasionally cause difficulty for the reader. There are issues with verb forms and tenses, such as 'animals should allow to stay' instead of 'be allowed to stay', subject-verb agreement errors like 'animals are maintain', and incorrect prepositions inside grammatical patterns, such as 'on their own habitat' instead of 'in their natural habitat'. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly in compound and complex sentences. Improving structural accuracy and reducing basic grammatical errors will strengthen this area.
