Student answer (Band 5.0)

animals are kept in zoos for enternainment purpose is becoming a new trend. some people believe that zoos should be shut down but some argue over this. in my opinion, i disagree with the statement.

on the first side, zoos are one of the places where adults and children love to visit. the overall enviornment, the feel of nature and looking at the different animals is always so mesmerizing. it does not only serves entertainment but also educational purpose. for example, many schools take their students to visit zoo so they can learn and observe. this whole experience can let children to have the pet of their own.

moreover, zoos are of those public areas that can generate relevat employment oppotunities to those who are in dire need of job. for instance, appointing janitors to clean the space, the staff who are responsible for feeding food to animals and birds, a guard for safty concerns etc. such people can also get some tips by the visitors so thay can always earn some little extra cash.

on the second side, i believe that individuals who wants to close down the zoo are not all wrong. they protests to keep animals safe and free. however, some of those animals get hunted down in forest or by wild animals but in zoo they feel much safe.

in conclusion, disadvantage outweighs advantages. zoos should be open five times a week and dduring weekdays, the animals can relax plus it gives time to cleaners to make the place more tidy and clean.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

Your position is stated clearly in the introduction: “I disagree with the statement,” and you give relevant reasons, including education, enjoyment and employment. You also acknowledge the opposing concern that animals should be safe and free. However, the argument is only partially developed: the claim that zoo visits may encourage children to have pets does not clearly explain why zoos should remain open, and the employment point is listed rather than explored. The conclusion is also inconsistent with your stated position: “disadvantage outweighs advantages” suggests that zoos should close, while your final recommendation is to keep them open five days a week. Clarify your overall view and support each main reason with a more direct explanation or example.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, supporting paragraphs, a paragraph acknowledging the opposing view, and a conclusion. Basic signposting such as “moreover,” “for instance,” and “in conclusion” helps readers follow the sections. However, progression between ideas is not always clear. “On the first side” and “on the second side” are awkward and do not establish a precise contrast, while the final paragraph introduces a weekday opening schedule without linking it clearly to the earlier arguments. The conclusion also conflicts with the stated position, weakening the overall flow. Use clearer topic sentences, connect each example explicitly to your argument, and make the conclusion consistently reflect your view.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “educational purpose,” “employment opportunities,” “hunted,” and “visitors,” and your meaning is generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several word choices, collocations, and spelling errors make the writing less precise. Examples include “enternainment purpose,” “the feel of nature,” “feeding food,” and “some little extra cash”; these are either misspelled or unnatural in context. Repetition of general words such as “place,” “people,” and “animals” also limits flexibility. Build a more accurate topic vocabulary and check spelling, while choosing natural combinations such as “provide employment,” “feed the animals,” and “experience nature.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more extended sentence forms, including “Zoos are one of the places where adults and children love to visit” and a sentence beginning “however” to introduce a concession. However, errors occur frequently and sometimes make relationships between ideas difficult to follow. For example, “it does not only serves” has incorrect verb agreement, “individuals who wants” has a subject–verb agreement error, and “they protests” also uses the wrong verb form. Articles and sentence boundaries are inconsistent, as in “visit zoo” and the run-on construction “such people can also get some tips … so thay can always earn.” Practise agreement, articles, and punctuation, and revise complex sentences to ensure each clause is complete and correctly connected.
