Student answer (Band 6.0)

In recent years, some people believe that zoos are no longer for animals should be kept and so it should be closed. Although i understand the concern about keeping wild animals in capitivity is necessary. In my opnion i strongly disagree with given statement because it plays a crucial role in wildlife conservation, education and scientific research.

To begin with, one of the main reason that zoos should be remaind open is that they help and protect endangered species. Many animals are threatened because of climatic change, illegal hunting and habitat destruction. Well-managed zoo provide these animals safe environment and helps them in breeding to increase their population. For instance, white tigers are extinct over the periods but zoos are breeding them in suitable enviroment and increasing their population.

Addtionally, another reason to let open the zoo is that to bring awarness among public and educate them in protecting wildlife. Many people, particularly children, have limited opportunities to observe wild animals in their natural habitats.Visiting a zoo allows them to learn about different species, their behaviour, and the threats they face. This experience can encourage people to protect the environment and support conservation projects. Furthermore, some zoos contribute to scientific research, helping experts improve their understanding of animal health, reproduction, and behaviour.

In conclusion, i strongly disagree all zoo must be closed. Instead, well-regulated zoos should continue operating because they support conservation, education, and research while helping protect endangered species and also protect animals from extinction by increasing their population.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear from the introduction to the conclusion: you disagree with closing zoos and give relevant reasons involving conservation, public education and research. The examples of breeding endangered animals and children learning about wildlife help support your argument. This meets the task well, but the ideas are not developed equally: the conservation point has a brief example, while education and research are mostly asserted rather than illustrated or explained in depth. The claim that white tigers are “extinct” is also inaccurate and weakens the example. To strengthen the response, explain how reputable zoos contribute to breeding or reintroduction programmes and give a specific example of research or education in practice.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs with distinct reasons, and a conclusion that restates your position. Sequencing phrases such as “To begin with,” “Additionally,” and “In conclusion” make the progression easy to follow. However, some linking is mechanical, and the second body paragraph combines education and research without showing clearly how the latter develops the main point. The conclusion also repeats several ideas from the introduction rather than drawing them together. Improve cohesion by using more varied, precise transitions and by linking each example explicitly to the claim it supports. Check spacing after sentence punctuation, as in “habitats.Visiting,” to keep the presentation clear.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “endangered species,” “habitat destruction,” “breeding,” “conservation projects,” and “scientific research,” which allows you to discuss the issue. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “plays a crucial role.” However, noticeable spelling errors and inaccurate or awkward word combinations limit precision: “capitivity,” “opnion,” “remaind,” and “Addtionally” are examples, while “let open the zoo” and “bring awarness” are unnatural. Some wording is also imprecise, particularly “white tigers are extinct.” Build accuracy by checking spelling and learning common collocations as complete phrases, such as “keep zoos open,” “raise public awareness,” and “breed endangered species in captivity.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including a concession beginning “Although” and a relative clause in “animals, their behaviour, and the threats they face.” Most of the argument remains understandable, but some errors in sentence structure, agreement, articles and punctuation reduce control. For example, “Although i understand the concern … is necessary” is an incomplete and confusing construction, and “one of the main reason” should use a plural noun. In “Well-managed zoo provide … and helps,” the subject and verbs do not agree. Capitalise “I,” and revise the opening sentence so its clauses form a complete, logical statement. More consistently accurate complex sentences would improve clarity and range.
