Student answer (Band 6.0)
With the growing number of entertainment facilities, some believe that animals must not be kept in zoos as we no longer need to have them jailed there. That is why they must be closed. I strongly disagree with the statement.
Firstly, the main reason is that zoos are made for the entertainment purposes. They are for the general public who want to observe the wildlife animals. Zoos host different animals and feed them with healthy food. Furthermore, those who cannot visit a jungle to see animals, visits the zoos to see the beauty of nature. For instance, there is a great hustle and bustle of the people in the famous zoo of Lahore where a number of different species are hsoted for the general public.
Conversely, zoos are also used to save the extinct species and to use them for research purposes. Many wildlife animals and several species are at the edge of extinction due to the climate change and growing number of human intervention in the nature. Therefore, it was essential to save those living things and to provide them with shelter. That is the reason zoos must not be closed. To illustrate this, pandas were at the verge of extinction then China collected them from all over the world and show cased them in zoos and saved their species.
In conclusion, zoos are made for the people in order to amuse them that is why they are essential for humans. In addition to this, they are used to save lives of many that is the main reason of the zoo existence.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
Your position is clear from the introduction: “I strongly disagree,” and the conclusion maintains that zoos should remain open. You give two relevant reasons—public access to wildlife and conservation—and support them with examples, including Lahore Zoo and pandas. This addresses the task and shows some development. However, the entertainment argument is explained more fully than the conservation argument, and the claim that pandas were collected from around the world and saved through zoo displays needs clearer, more accurate explanation. The essay would be stronger if it directly weighed the benefits of zoos against the concern that animals are “jailed” there, and developed how research or conservation programmes help animals rather than simply asserting that zoos save species.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs presenting reasons, and a conclusion. The progression from public access to conservation is easy to follow, and signposts such as “Firstly,” “Furthermore,” and “To illustrate this” help guide the reader. This gives the essay a coherent arrangement. Some linking is mechanical or imprecise, however: “Conversely” suggests a contrast, although the second paragraph adds another reason for keeping zoos rather than opposing the first. Several ideas are also joined in long sentences, particularly in the conclusion, which makes their relationships less clear. Use transitions that accurately show whether you are adding, contrasting, or explaining, and make references between sentences more explicit.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a range of topic-related vocabulary, including “wildlife,” “species,” “extinction,” “climate change,” and “research purposes,” which allows you to discuss the issue clearly. There are also attempts at less common expressions, such as “at the edge of extinction.” However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, including “wildlife animals,” “entertainment purposes,” and “show cased them in zoos.” Spelling errors such as “hsoted” also reduce precision. These issues do not prevent the reader from understanding your main points, but they limit the naturalness and control of the vocabulary. Aim for accurate, conventional combinations and check spelling, especially in key examples.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use both simple and more complex sentence forms, including clauses introduced by “who,” “where,” and “that,” and most of your meaning remains clear. Some grammatical errors are present, particularly with subject–verb agreement and tense. For example, “those who cannot visit a jungle … visits the zoos” should use “visit,” and “China collected them … and show cased them” shifts tense inconsistently. There are also sentence-boundary and punctuation problems: the conclusion joins several complete ideas without clear punctuation. Work on checking agreement, keeping verb tenses consistent, and separating independent clauses. Greater accuracy in these areas would make your varied sentence structures easier to read.
