Student answer (Band 5.5)

Zoo is a place where animals are kept in cages to entertain children and teenagers. Now it is widely suggested that just like humans, wild animals are also born naturally free so it is a inhuman act to keep animals in cages. I strongly agree with this statement that it is against the law of nature to keep animals in prison just for entertainment purposes.

Wild animals are independent animals. They born, run, prey and feed on their own. They play an important role in balancing the ecosystem by maintaining the food chain. It is against the wild life to bound animlas in some place of just few squares. In zoo, animals are not treated right. They are not feed well, hygenic conditions are not considered for them. Moreover children at zoo tease them , people throw stones and pebbles at them to take their attention which in return can hurt them. If any animal got sick, there are poor medical treatment for that animal. Government should check strictly on basic right of zoo animals. Furthermore, there are some gangs who hunt down the wild animals illegally and then sell them to Zoo authorities without any record. This cause a lot of trouble for animals which are not listed. For instance, there is a zoo in my city and i have observed that wild animals are treated very poorly. They rarely got a chance to get bathed and die to unhygenic conditions, there health is adversely affected.

To sum up my view, I would say that Zoo culture should be banned beacise no law on earth allows to cage some living organism wothout their will. Apart from domestic animals, rest of the animal kingdom is blessed with freedom by nature.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear from the introduction: you strongly agree that keeping wild animals in zoos is wrong, and the conclusion reinforces this view. You give relevant reasons, including restricted space, poor care, visitors disturbing animals, and illegal capture. The example of a zoo in your city also helps connect the argument to observation. However, some points are asserted rather than explained: for instance, the claim that animals are not fed well or receive poor medical treatment would be stronger with a specific illustration or explanation. The discussion also focuses almost entirely on problems with zoos, without considering possible benefits such as conservation or explaining why closure is preferable to reform. Developing these aspects would make the response more complete and persuasive.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction states your view, the main paragraph presents supporting reasons, and the final paragraph restates your position. Ideas generally follow a sensible order, moving from animals’ natural behaviour to conditions in zoos and then illegal capture. Linking expressions such as “Moreover,” “Furthermore,” and “To sum up” help signal relationships between points. At times, however, the main paragraph becomes a long sequence of claims, so the reader has to work to see how each point connects to the next. Some references are also unclear, as in “This cause a lot of trouble for animals which are not listed.” Grouping related points into clearer stages and explaining the link between them would improve progression.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “ecosystem,” “food chain,” “illegal,” and “medical treatment,” which allows you to discuss animal welfare and wildlife. There are also attempts at more expressive phrasing, such as “against the law of nature.” However, the range is limited by repeated use of basic terms such as “animals,” “zoo,” and “poor,” and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate. For example, “bound animals” and “Zoo culture” do not express your meaning naturally; “confine animals” and “keeping animals in zoos” would be clearer. Spelling errors such as “hygenic,” “beacise,” and “wothout” are noticeable. More precise vocabulary and careful proofreading would make the argument easier to follow.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including a relative clause in “people throw stones and pebbles at them to take their attention” and a conditional structure beginning “If any animal got sick.” The overall meaning is usually understandable, but errors in verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence construction recur. Examples include “They born” instead of “They are born,” “They are not feed well” instead of “They are not fed well,” and “This cause” instead of “This causes.” The sentence beginning “If any animal got sick” is not completed with a clear main clause. Some punctuation and spacing are also inconsistent. Practise accurate past and passive forms, and check that each sentence has a complete, correctly structured clause.
