Student answer (Band 6.0)
There is a perception about animals that they should not be kept in zoos and let them live in their natural habitat, so zoos should be closed. I strongly disagree with this statement, i insist on keeping the zoos open for the survival of various animal spicies.
Zoos play a major role in biodiversity, Chinese native Chonqching pandas are the best example avalaible of our century. During Qing dynasty these pandas were being wiped out of jungles because of major wars, industrialisation and plaques, at the time this panda spicies was entitled as endangered and they were on brink of extinction. A small batch of pandas were kept in the zoo to promote their inbreeding and provided them with best medications available at the time. Results followed in few decades, now Chonqching pandas are growing in numbers and participating in biodiversity by eating bamboos containing cyanide harmful for other animals.
On the other hand, zoos play a impactful role in our society by children can visit animals in a controlled environment, whether it is a wild animal or domesticated one. Different kind of animals are present in zoo where children can get to know better about their ecosystem and biodiversity cycle, making empathy toward animals and developing interest about research and welfare of animals.
In conclusion, zoos are playing a central role between relation of humans and animals, whilst contributing in research, welfare, protecting endangered spicies and biodiversity. I strongly believe zoos should be opened in various cities and animals should be dealt with proper care.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
Your position is clear from the introduction—“I strongly disagree”—and remains consistent in the conclusion. You give two relevant reasons for keeping zoos open: conservation and education, supported by an example of pandas and a description of children learning about animals. This addresses the task, and the conservation example shows an effort to support your view with specific detail. However, the panda account is difficult to assess because the history and claims are not clearly explained, and the education point is less developed: explain more precisely how zoo visits benefit children and why this supports keeping zoos open. To strengthen the response further, develop both reasons with clearer explanation and ensure the example directly supports the argument rather than introducing confusing details.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs presenting separate reasons, and a conclusion that restates your position. The progression from conservation to education is logical, and phrases such as “On the other hand” and “In conclusion” help signal the stages of the argument. Some connections are less smooth, however. “On the other hand” suggests a contrast, although the education point adds another reason in support of zoos. Within the panda paragraph, the sequence of historical events, breeding, and present-day effects is hard to follow, partly because the links between these details are not made explicit. Use more precise transitions and clearer references, and organise the example so each sentence builds directly on the previous one.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a range of topic-related vocabulary, including “biodiversity,” “endangered,” “inbreeding,” “ecosystem,” and “welfare,” which helps communicate the subject and shows an attempt to use less common terms. However, several noticeable spelling errors—such as “spicies,” “avalaible,” and “Chonqching”—and imprecise or unnatural combinations reduce clarity and control. For example, “a impactful role” and “participating in biodiversity” do not express your intended meaning naturally. Some wording is also vague, such as “a small batch of pandas.” Aim for accurate spelling and check how key terms combine with other words. More precise phrasing will make your ideas easier to understand and demonstrate stronger control of vocabulary.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a sentence beginning “During Qing dynasty” and a longer explanation of children’s learning. The main ideas are generally understandable, but some grammatical errors affect fluency and clarity. For example, “I insist on keeping the zoos open” should be separated from the preceding sentence with appropriate punctuation, and “by children can visit animals” has an incorrect sentence structure. There are also issues with articles, agreement, and sentence construction, as in “Different kind of animals are present.” Work on building complex sentences around a clear subject and verb, and check articles and singular/plural agreement. Greater accuracy in these areas would make the argument smoother to read.
