Student answer (Band 6.0)
Animals should no longer be kept in zoos, therefore the zoos should be closed. I disagree with this statement, for which I will provide reasons in this essay.
Animals that are kept in a zoo are mostly endagered species which have very low chances of survival in the wild or some of them are the native animals of the country where the zoos exist. These animals cannot survive in the wild because of the increasing urbanisation, moreover they are being killed by the hunters for their skin, teeth, paws, skulls and many more reasons.
The zoos give them a safe environment with food according to their nutrional needs so that they could live a healthy life without any threats, moreover zoos are a reason these animals are not extinct yet because these animals breed in the zoo and there population increases. Furthermore zoos are also helpful
for educational purposes as there are numerous animals which are rare sight as well as a public attraction.
People pay to see these animals which eventually contributes towards the well being of the animals, the money earned goes towards the food and healthcare of the animals.
So in conclusion, I think zoos should not be closed but they should be promoted, however there should be certain rules and regulation regarding the animals and the visitors which ensures the safety of both. Also the concerned authorities should keep a check on the animals, their shelters, food quality, healthcare and everything thing that ensures a healthy and natural atmosphere for the animals.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
Your position is clear from the introduction and conclusion: you disagree with closing zoos. You give relevant reasons, including protection from hunters, breeding programmes, education, and funding for animal care. This covers the task well, and the examples of threats to animals help explain your view. However, some claims are broad or insufficiently supported—for example, that zoo animals are “mostly endangered” and that zoos are why they “are not extinct yet.” The educational benefit and the proposed rules for zoos are also mentioned but not developed with a specific example or explanation. To strengthen the response further, qualify generalisations and extend each main reason with evidence or a concrete example.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable overall structure: an introduction, supporting points, and a conclusion that restates your position. Ideas generally progress from animal protection to breeding, education, and funding. Linking expressions such as “Furthermore,” “moreover,” and “So in conclusion” help show relationships between points. However, several ideas are crowded into long paragraphs, and repeated use of “moreover” and “these animals” makes the connections feel somewhat mechanical. The sentence beginning “The zoos give them a safe environment” also combines several claims without clear separation. Use distinct body paragraphs for the main reasons, and vary linking methods by making the relationship between each claim and its explanation explicit.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “endangered species,” “urbanisation,” “healthcare,” and “public attraction,” which makes your argument understandable. There are also attempts at more specific language, such as listing animals’ body parts targeted by hunters. Some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or imprecise, however: “nutrional needs,” “a reason these animals are not extinct yet,” and “a rare sight” do not express the intended ideas naturally. Spelling errors such as “endagered” and “there population” also reduce accuracy. Aim for precise collocations and check spelling carefully; for example, describe zoos as supporting conservation or captive-breeding programmes rather than as the reason species are not extinct.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You use both simple statements and longer sentences with clauses, as in “These animals cannot survive in the wild because of the increasing urbanisation.” Your meaning is generally clear, but some grammatical and punctuation errors remain. For example, “there population increases” has an agreement/possessive problem, and “there should be certain rules and regulation” has a plural agreement error. Several sentences join independent ideas with commas, particularly the sentence about urbanisation and hunting, and the final sentence contains the awkward construction “everything thing that ensures.” Improve control by separating complete ideas with full stops or semicolons, checking singular and plural forms, and varying complex sentence patterns more accurately.
