Student answer (Band 5.0)

In this essay i will discuss the issue about if animal to be kept in zoos,so zoos should be closed and in the end i will give my opinion.

Very first, zoos are made for the entertainment of people and there are a lot of private and government zoos established people come with their kids and families almost every school take their kids on picnic to zoos for educational purpose.Kids enjoy having fun with animals and animals love them too even university students go to zoo for their studies or projects.

Moreover, zoos are so fun but bcs of some people zoos have destroyed the reputation of zoos.Irritating animal throwing things on them and not behaving in the zoo respectfully forexample,When any animal attacks them back then they start blaming zoos management. In some cases the staff of the zoos also not taking care of animals properly not providing them food, water and any other essential.Animals end up getting sick or die because of not cleaning there place time to time.

Overall,I believe that zoos should be closed because people throw their waste in zoo and lack of facilities provided for the animals. There are a lot of national and international animals they come from different environment and weather so it is hard for them to survive without proper facilities and the people harm them too for their fun.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You discuss relevant reasons for keeping zoos, such as education and recreation, and reasons for closing them, including poor animal care and harmful visitor behaviour. However, the task asks whether you agree or disagree, and your position is not clearly established until the final paragraph; the opening only promises to give an opinion. Your conclusion supports closure, but the essay does not fully explain why this outweighs the educational benefits mentioned earlier, and examples remain general rather than developed. The response is 217 words, so it is 33 words below the required minimum; the eight words copied from the prompt were not counted. Develop your position consistently and add specific explanation or an example to support each main reason.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a basic paragraph structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion. The ideas are generally related to the topic, and transitions such as “Moreover” and “Overall” signal movement between points. However, the overall progression is not always clear: the first body paragraph supports the benefits of zoos, while the next and the conclusion argue for closure, without a clear explanation connecting these positions. Some sentences run together, making relationships between ideas difficult to follow, and the repeated focus on “zoos” and “animals” makes the writing feel repetitive. Use clearer topic sentences, separate distinct points into sentences, and add linking phrases that show contrast and cause and effect.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough topic vocabulary to communicate basic ideas, including “entertainment,” “educational purpose,” “facilities,” and “environment.” However, the range is limited and several expressions are imprecise or informal, which sometimes makes the meaning difficult to follow. For example, “zoos have destroyed the reputation of zoos” does not clearly express the intended criticism, while “animals love them too” is an unsupported and overly casual claim. “Bcs” is an informal abbreviation, and spelling and word-form choices such as “forexample” and “there place” reduce accuracy. Aim for precise phrases about animal welfare and visitor conduct, and use formal, correctly spelled language throughout.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences, including a sentence beginning “because people throw their waste in zoo,” but control is inconsistent. Errors in sentence structure, verb forms, articles and agreement occur frequently and can make the reader work to understand your meaning. For instance, “if animal to be kept in zoos” is not a complete, correctly formed clause, and “the staff … also not taking care” is missing an auxiliary verb. Several ideas are joined without appropriate punctuation, as in the long sentence about visitors, families and school trips. Practise forming complete clauses, using articles and plural forms accurately, and dividing long sentences into shorter, correctly punctuated units.
