Student answer (Band 6.0)
Zoo is a safe place for animal. Some people thinks we do not need to keep animals in zoo now, so zoos should be shut down.In my opinion, zoos are important for animals because animal get good environment and proper care there, so closing zoos will not be beneficial for many animals.
Zoos is a place where animals can live securely. In zoos each animal has their own designated area and animals have a freedom to roam around there. For example, animals like lions have their own space, while elephants and monkeys are kept separately. Animals living in a zoo get proper medical care because each zoo have their own medical team to take care of animals health. Morever, animals living in a zoo are given a proper diet to ensure they remain healthy. Animals in a zoo are also a good source of entertainment for children who enjoying watching and interacting with them. In zoos the animals are kept in a confined space so children can interact with them safely without any danger.
On the other hand, we cannot ignore the fact that keeping animal in cages can negatively impact their physical and mental health. For example, most of the animals like lion are wild animal by nature so it is very difficult for them to adjust in a small confined space.Furthermore, in many cases the people visiting zoos harm animals by giving them the food they could not eat or by distrubing their peace for entertainment.Zoo management sometimes also exploit the animals for their own financial benefits. For instance, they allow the visitors to take a ride on elephents in exchange for money which can cause the physical injury and psychlogical stress to the elephents because of the constant interaction with tourists.
In conclusion, i believe that zoo is a safe place for animal were they get proper care and protection, but in few cases zoo management misuse them for their own benefits which can effect the animals negatively.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You give a clear position: you disagree with closing zoos because they provide care and protection. The response also recognises the opposing view, noting that confinement can harm animals and that some managers exploit them. These points are relevant and address the question. However, the support is uneven: medical care and diet are mentioned but not explained in much detail, while the examples of visitor disturbance and elephant rides are more specific. The discussion of children’s entertainment is less persuasive as a reason to keep zoos, since it does not show how this benefits animals. To develop the response further, explain which kinds of zoos should remain open and how welfare concerns could be addressed, then connect those points directly to your position.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, a paragraph supporting zoos, a paragraph presenting disadvantages, and a conclusion. The contrast marker “On the other hand” helps signal the shift to the opposing view, and examples generally follow the points they illustrate. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes mechanical: repeated openings such as “Animals in a zoo” and “In zoos” make the discussion feel list-like. Some links between ideas are also unclear, particularly the move from animal care to children’s entertainment. The conclusion repeats the main position but does not resolve the contrast between protection and exploitation. Use clearer topic sentences and connect each example explicitly to the paragraph’s central claim.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough topic vocabulary to discuss animal welfare, including “medical care,” “confined space,” “physical and mental health,” and “psychological stress.” These choices make the main ideas understandable, and you attempt some more specific language when describing exploitation. However, vocabulary is repetitive, especially “animals,” “zoo,” and “proper,” and several word choices or forms are inaccurate: “a safe place for animal,” “a good source of entertainment,” and “the food they could not eat.” Spelling errors such as “Morever,” “distrubing,” “elephents,” and “psychlogical” also reduce accuracy. Build a wider range of precise terms for welfare and captivity, and check spelling and collocations so that your meaning sounds natural and exact.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You use both simple statements and longer sentences with clauses, for example, “For example, most of the animals like lion are wild animal by nature so it is very difficult for them to adjust in a small confined space.” This shows an attempt to vary sentence structure, and the overall meaning remains clear. Some grammatical errors recur, however, including subject–verb agreement (“Some people thinks,” “Zoos is,” “each zoo have”), articles and plurals (“a safe place for animal”), and verb forms (“children who enjoying”). There are also punctuation problems where sentences run together, such as “shut down.In my opinion” and “confined space.Furthermore.” Review agreement, articles, and sentence boundaries, then proofread for consistent capitalisation and punctuation.
