Student answer (Band 5.5)

Zoo contains huge variety of animals. Some people thinks that there is no need to keep them in zoos so these places should be closed. In my opinion, It totally disagree with the statment because zoo is a great spot for family picnic and one can get good exposure to animals economically. However, this also adds an responsibility to take care of animals.

Firstly, Many families choose to go to zoo as it is a best place that contains both fun as well as great knowledge about animals. There are various sources of entertainment available for each age group. Activities like snake show, fish dancing attracts people to join and there is a seperate playarea for juveniles. people can also experience ride on particular type of animals. There are many cafeterias with variety of cousines to taste. Furthermore, This place also has large number of gardens where famillies can sit together, experience the nature and spend good quality time and make memories and refresh their minds in peaceful environment. Secondly, individuals can get great exposure of animals in less amount of money. they can experience the life style of various animals like what they eat, how to look, how they move and how they behave. They just need to pay a very little amount of money which is charged by government.

In contrast, there is an additional responsibility on government to take care of species. Moreover, it might be life threating for zoo employees specially from wild carnivorous animals like Lion, Tiger and large amount of funds invested on feeding and maintaining the life style required by animals.

In conclusion, Zoos should be open for public so that families can visit and get experience the nature and can have great memories of their lives.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

Your position is clear: you disagree with closing zoos, and you give reasons related to family recreation and affordable opportunities to observe animals. These points are relevant, but the response only partly addresses the central issue of whether animals should be kept in zoos. The discussion focuses heavily on picnics, shows, rides and food, while the animal-welfare concern is mentioned briefly and not answered with a counterargument or evidence. The point about public exposure to animals could be developed by explaining how zoos support education or conservation, with a specific example. To strengthen the response, keep the focus on the task’s main debate and explain why the benefits to animals and society justify keeping zoos open.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, a main paragraph supporting zoos, a contrasting paragraph, and a conclusion. Sequencing words such as “Firstly,” “Furthermore,” “Secondly,” and “In contrast” help signal the direction of the argument. However, the first body paragraph contains many separate examples—shows, a play area, rides, cafeterias and gardens—so its central point becomes less focused. Some connections are also mechanical, and the contrast paragraph does not clearly explain how the risks and costs relate to the position. Group related examples and use clearer topic sentences and references, so each paragraph develops one main idea and the argument progresses more smoothly.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use a range of topic-related vocabulary, including “variety of animals,” “wild carnivorous animals,” “feeding,” and “maintaining,” which makes the subject clear. There are also attempts at more specific expressions, such as “quality time” and “peaceful environment.” However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward, including “get good exposure to animals,” “fish dancing,” and “experience ride on particular type of animals.” Spelling and word-form errors such as “statment,” “seperate,” “famillies,” and “cousines” are noticeable. These issues sometimes make the reader pause. Aim for more precise, natural phrasing and check spelling carefully; for example, describe what visitors learn rather than relying on the vague phrase “exposure to animals.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more extended sentences, including a sentence beginning “Furthermore” that adds several details about gardens and family visits. However, control is inconsistent, and errors occur in basic sentence patterns as well as longer constructions. Examples include “Some people thinks,” “I totally disagree,” and “this also adds an responsibility”; these show problems with subject–verb agreement, verb form and articles. In “Activities like snake show, fish dancing attracts people,” the subject and verb do not agree, and the sentence structure is unclear. Capitalisation and punctuation are also inconsistent, particularly after sentence openings such as “people” and “they.” Practise accurate sentence patterns first, then build longer sentences with clear subjects and verbs.
