Student answer (Band 6.0)

The society no longer needs to place animals in zoos, and the abolishment of zoos must be implemented. I strongly object to that because zoos are essential recreational facilities that maintain a functional community and are source of direct and indirect income for both individuals and governments.

Household members today are occupied by either education or work. Parents-children contact time is minimal. Zoo trips are great opportunity for parents to have intimate time with their children as those trips have unique experiences because of how one can relate to wildlife in a way no television documentary can replicate. For example, a father whose job is in a different state other than his state of residence bonds with his children much better at the zoo. The father can accompany his kids to different parts of the animal cages sharing thoughts and emotions, giving him more in-depth understanding about their personas.

Secondly, zoos provide jobs to several individuals. These jobs earn funds to the the local populace. On the other hand, the state gets more revenue in taxes. Looking at the bigger picture, the overall economical benefit aids the whole society. For example, the Giza Zoo in Cairo employs around a thousand people and generating nearly 900,000 Egyptian pounds monthly.

The financial benefit can be attributed to indirect revenue sources such as merchandise and utilities.

To conclude, we might debate about the need of having animals in zoos or explore shutting down the zoos altogether. I argue that zoos are vital in maintaining the social relationships of families and they aid in thriving the local economy.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear from the opening: you oppose closing zoos, and the conclusion restates the two main reasons—family relationships and economic benefits. Both points are relevant, and the example of Giza Zoo gives the economic argument some specific support. This meets the task well overall, but the case is not fully developed across both reasons. The family example focuses on a father living in another state, yet the link between a zoo visit and stronger family relationships is asserted more than explained. The economic paragraph also mentions merchandise and utilities without showing how these generate income. To strengthen the response further, explain how zoos benefit animals or conservation, and develop each example so it directly supports your position.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs presenting separate reasons, and a conclusion. Sequencing phrases such as “Secondly” and “To conclude” help readers follow the argument, and each body paragraph has a recognisable focus. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical, and connections between claims could be clearer. For instance, “On the other hand” introduces tax revenue, but this is an additional benefit rather than a contrast with employment. The sentence about “merchandise and utilities” feels detached from the preceding example and needs a clearer link to the economic point. Use transitions that express the precise relationship between ideas, and add linking explanations within paragraphs so the progression feels more continuous.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “recreational facilities,” “revenue,” “local populace,” and “bonds.” These choices help communicate your main ideas, and the meaning is generally clear. There are, however, several inaccurate or unnatural word combinations that limit precision, such as “the abolishment of zoos must be implemented,” “source of direct and indirect income,” and “thriving the local economy.” Some wording is also vague: “utilities” does not clearly identify the indirect revenue source you mean. Aim for natural collocations and precise terms, particularly when presenting your central claims. For example, describe zoos as generating employment and tax revenue, and specify whether you mean gift shops, food outlets, or visitor services.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including subordinate clauses in “because of how one can relate to wildlife” and the relative clause “whose job is in a different state.” Most sentences remain understandable, and errors rarely prevent the reader from following your argument. Some grammatical inaccuracies are present, however. In “zoos … are source,” the article is missing; “Parents-children contact time” has an unclear noun construction; and “employs around a thousand people and generating” does not maintain a parallel verb form. There is also an unnecessary repeated article in “the the local populace.” Review articles, noun phrases, and parallel structures, then proofread for small errors. More consistently accurate complex sentences would improve control.
