Student answer (Band 6.0)
Nowadays, some people believe that keeping animals in zoos is no longer necessary and that all zoos should be closed. I partly disagree with this opinion because zoos can protect endangered animals and educate people. This essay will highlight both perspectives.
On the first hand, Many individuals argue that release all the zoo animals because kept them into zoo is not necessary in this modern era. By releasing them into jungles, provides them flexibility and productivity, which can enables them to improve in their birth rates and live long life. For instance, lions and elephants naturally travel long distances, but they may spend most of their lives in small enclosures. This can cause stress and affect their health. Therefore, keeping animals in poor conditions is unfair and should not be allowed.
On the second hand, some people believes that zoos can play an important role in protecting endangered species. Various species at risk of extinction because of hunting, pollution and the destruction of forests. Well-managed zoos can provide better environment for those animals. In addition, zoos help children and adults learn about wildlife and importance of protecting nature. For example, seeing animals in person may encourage visitors to support wildlife conservation.
In my opinion, instead of closing all zoos, governments should close those that fail to provide proper care. Zoos should offer large, natural spaces, healthy food and appropriate medical treatment.
To recapitulate, although keeping animals in zoos can be harmful, I believe that well-managed zoos are still useful for conservation and education. Therefore, improving zoos is a better solution than closing all of them.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
Your position is clear: you partly disagree with closing zoos, and the conclusion consistently supports improving rather than shutting them all. You address both sides with relevant points, including stress caused by small enclosures and the conservation and educational roles of well-managed zoos. The examples of lions and elephants and of visitors learning about wildlife help make the discussion concrete. However, some ideas are less fully developed than others. The case for releasing animals is asserted rather than explored—for example, the essay does not consider whether animals raised in captivity could survive in the wild. The conservation point would also benefit from a specific example of a species or a zoo programme. More balanced explanation and support would make the response more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The essay has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for opposing views, your own position, and a conclusion. The progression from the disadvantages of captivity to the benefits of conservation is easy to follow, and phrases such as “For instance” and “In addition” help signal examples and added points. The organisation is coherent, but some linking is mechanical or inaccurate. “On the first hand” and “On the second hand” are not natural transitions for presenting contrasting arguments; “On the one hand” and “On the other hand” would be more appropriate. The opening also promises “both perspectives” without clearly previewing the argument. Use a wider range of natural links and make references between sentences more precise to strengthen the flow.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “endangered animals,” “extinction,” “wildlife conservation,” and “medical treatment.” These terms make the subject clear, and the meaning is generally understandable. There are also attempts at more specific phrasing, such as “small enclosures” and “destruction of forests.” However, some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, including “improve in their birth rates,” “live long life,” and “provide better environment.” “Flexibility and productivity” does not clearly express the intended benefit of living in the wild. Aim for more precise, natural combinations, such as “reproduce more successfully,” “live longer,” and “provide a better environment.” This would improve fluency and precision without requiring more complicated vocabulary.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentences, including a conditional structure in “instead of closing all zoos, governments should close those that fail to provide proper care” and a relative clause in “zoos that fail to provide proper care.” Most ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. For example, “Many individuals argue that release” needs a subject and a correctly formed verb, while “because kept them into zoo” has an incomplete and faulty clause. There are also agreement and article errors in “some people believes” and “provide better environment,” and the construction “which can enables” combines incompatible verb forms. Check subject–verb agreement, articles, and verb patterns, and revise complex sentences to ensure each clause is complete.
