Student answer (Band 5.5)

The want for animals has ended to restrict them to zoos, so we should shut down zoos. I strongly disagree with this stance and i will show reasons for my disagreement in this essay with relevant examples.

People believed that zoos should closed because animals are not threat to humans now. They are much friendly and we have taken anough safety precautions to prevent an attack. To illustrate, stray dogs were much voilent in past in contrast to today. Therefore we should not waste public money maintaining zoos and focus on other needs of population.

I am of the opinion that zoos are necessary because it will keep the public areas safe and they are also source of learning for children. Dogs or any other wild animal can harm people in the streets and can interfere with smooth running of traffic and spread fear of working till late night. As well as, if zoos are closed then children do not have a chance to see animals clearly without the fear of attack. So zoos are source of knowledge and source of entertainment among people. For intance, Schools around Pakistan conduct trips to Lahore Zoo to enhance students knowledge and to give them experience of watching animals physically in front of then.

In conclusion, there is argument that zoos should end because there is more safety among society due to precautions being taken. However, according to me zoos are source of learning and maintaining safety among people.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

Your position is clear: you strongly disagree with closing zoos, and you give reasons involving public safety and children’s learning, including the Lahore Zoo school-trip example. However, the response only partially addresses the task because the main argument is not consistently explained. The paragraph beginning “People believed that zoos should closed” presents a case for closing zoos, but its claim that animals are now less dangerous does not directly explain why zoos should close. Your supporting points about safety also need clearer links to keeping animals in zoos. The response is 4 words below the required 250-word minimum. Develop each reason with a more precise explanation and relevant evidence, and make sure the opposing view does not weaken your own position.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The essay has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, separate body paragraphs and a conclusion. The reader can follow the broad movement from the opposing view to your reasons for retaining zoos. However, progression within the argument is uneven: the first body paragraph supports closing zoos, while the next shifts to safety and education without clearly showing how these points answer that argument. Linking phrases such as “To illustrate,” “Therefore” and “In conclusion” help signal relationships, but some connections are mechanical or unclear. For example, “As well as” does not smoothly introduce the next point. Use clearer topic sentences and explain the relationship between each example and your main claim so the argument develops more consistently.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate your main ideas, including “public money,” “safety precautions,” “source of learning” and “entertainment.” However, the range is limited and several inaccurate or awkward choices make parts of the essay difficult to interpret. “The want for animals has ended to restrict them to zoos” does not express the task’s meaning clearly, and “spread fear of working till late night” is an imprecise phrase. There are also noticeable spelling errors, such as “anough,” “voilent” and “intance.” Aim for more precise collocations and check spelling carefully. Replacing repeated phrases such as “source of” with more varied, natural expressions would also improve fluency.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including a conditional structure in “if zoos are closed then children do not have a chance…” and a relative clause in “animals are not threat to humans now.” These attempts show some range, but errors occur often enough to affect clarity. Examples include “zoos should closed” instead of “zoos should be closed,” “it will keep” where the plural subject “zoos” requires “they will keep,” and “there is argument” instead of “there is an argument.” Capitalisation and punctuation also need attention, particularly the lowercase “i” and the long opening sentence. Practise accurate articles, agreement and passive forms, then proofread each sentence for a complete and correctly punctuated structure.
