Student answer (Band 5.0)

The trend of keeping animals in zoos is significantly increased nowadays which is affect the health and conitions of animals. It is argued that we no longer need to have animals kept in zoos, so zoos should be closed. I partially agree with this, zoos should not be closed rather we should make separate places for animals similar to their natural habitat.

To begin with, there are solid evidence in favor of that animals should not be kept in cages and zoos because they can not be breed there evenually their poplulations fall. To prove my point, a report published by BBC news highlight that 8 out of 10 wild animals that are kept in zoos can not reproduce. This is the reason people argue there is no need of keeping animals in zoos.

On the other hand, some say that zoos should not be closed because zoos contribute in the economy and significant number of people are doing zoo related jobs and earning their living. For instance, only in United States 30000 people are somehow related to zoo and doing jobs, and contributions in economy when people buy tickets.

In conclusion, where zoos are not the optimum place for animals to live, however

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You present a relevant, partly clear position: you do not support simply closing zoos, but propose creating places that resemble animals’ natural habitats. You also give reasons on both sides, including reproduction and employment. However, the response addresses the task only partially because the position and proposed alternative are not fully explained, and the final sentence is unfinished. The examples, such as the BBC claim and the figure about US zoo-related jobs, are asserted but not explained or connected in detail to your conclusion. The response contains 189 words, below the required 250; 15 words copied from the task prompt were excluded from that count. Develop each reason with explanation and a relevant example, then complete a clear conclusion.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs presenting different considerations, and the start of a conclusion. Transitions such as “To begin with” and “On the other hand” help signal the change in viewpoint. However, the overall progression is incomplete because the conclusion stops at “however,” leaving the argument unresolved. Some links between ideas are also unclear: the claim about animals’ inability to reproduce is followed by a report, but the relationship between this evidence and whether zoos should close is not fully developed. The repeated use of “zoos” and “animals” also makes the writing feel repetitive. Use clearer references and connect each example explicitly to the point it supports.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use some topic-relevant vocabulary, including “natural habitat,” “populations,” “reproduce,” and “contribute in the economy,” which helps communicate the main ideas. There is also an attempt to use more formal phrasing, such as “To prove my point.” However, the range is limited and several word choices or spellings are noticeably inaccurate, sometimes making the meaning less clear. Examples include “conitions,” “eventually” (where the intended meaning appears to be “eventually” but the sentence needs a clearer expression), and “zoo related jobs.” Some collocations are awkward, including “solid evidence in favor of that.” Aim for accurate topic vocabulary and natural combinations, and check spelling carefully before submitting.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including a contrast between the two sides and a relative clause in “animals that are kept in zoos.” However, the range is limited, and errors occur frequently enough to make some sentences difficult to follow. For example, “The trend … is significantly increased … which is affect” has problems with verb form and clause structure; “there are solid evidence” has a subject–verb agreement error; and “zoos contribute in the economy” uses an incorrect preposition within the grammatical pattern. The final sentence, “where zoos are not the optimum place … however,” is incomplete. Practise building complete sentences with accurate verb forms and agreement, and proofread punctuation and sentence boundaries.
