Student answer (Band 5.5)

A GROWING NUMBER OF PEOPLE BELIEVE THAT HOLDING ANIMALS IN CAPTIVITY IS NO LONGER JUSTIFIABLE AND THAT ALL ZOOS SHOULD BE DECOMMISSIONED. I ENTIRELY AGREE WITH IS PERSPECTIVE, AS CONFINING SENTIENT CREATURES CAUSES SEVERE PSYCHOLOGICAL DISTRESS. AND TECHNOLOGY GIVES ALL THE DATA AND DIFFERENT TYPE OF SPECIES ON THE DIFFERENT TYPE OF PLATFORMS SO THERE IS NO NEED TO VISIT ZOOS FOR EDUCATION AND KNOWLEDGE.

THEIR ARE SO MANY REASON TO BE CLOSED ZOOS BECAUSE IT REALLY IMPACT TO THE ANIMAL OVERALL INTERNAL HEALTH AND EXTERNAL HEALTH. BECAUSE IN FOREST ANIMALS ARE FREE FOR GOING ANYWHARE AND ALSO THEY DO NOT DEPEND OF ANYBODY FOR FOOD IN FORESTS BUT IN ZOOS THEY WERE CLOSED IN A CAGE OR BOUNDARY AREA AND DEPEND ON OTHER FOR FOOD.SO THEY CAUSE ANIMALS HEALTH.

ON THE OTHER HAND ZOOS SHULD BE CLOSED BECAUSE VISITORS CAUSES POLUTION NEAR THE ANIMALS AND ANIMALS DO NOT WANT ANY TYPE OF POLLUTION BECAUSE THEY LIVED IN FORESTS WHERE THE POLLUTION RATIO IS VERY LOW AND APART FROM THAT ANIMALS POPULATION SLIGHTLY DECREASED IF THEY KEPT IN ZOOS BECAUSE THEY DO NOT DO REPRODUCTION SO THAT'S WHY THE POPULATION OF ANIMALS SLIGHTLY GO DOWN SO THAT'S WHY THEY SHOULD INDEPENDENT FROM THE ZOOS.

IN CONCLUSION, ANIMALS SHOULD NOT KEPT IN ZOOS AND ZOOS SHOULD BE CLOSED BECAUSE THE CAUSES ANIMALS HEALTH AND ALSO MANY PEOPLE COME AND DO POLLUTION. APART FROM THESE ZOOS ALSO HELP TO REDUCED THE POPULATION OF ANIMALS BECAUSE THEY DO NOT DO ANY TYPE OF REPRODUCTION ACTIVITIES TO PRODUCE THEIR BABIES.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear from the opening: you entirely agree that zoos should close, and you give relevant reasons concerning animals’ welfare, pollution and education through technology. This addresses the task, but the reasons are not developed equally. The point about confinement and dependence on people is explained briefly, while the claims that visitors cause pollution and that zoo animals reproduce less are asserted without examples or explanation. The education argument is introduced but not revisited or supported. To strengthen the response, explain how captivity affects animals’ behaviour or health and give a specific example, then clarify how technology can provide an effective alternative to zoo visits.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable overall structure: an introduction states your view, two body paragraphs present reasons, and a conclusion restates your position. This gives the reader a basic route through the argument. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes difficult to follow, and linking phrases are repetitive or awkward. For example, the second body paragraph repeats “so that’s why,” while “On the other hand” suggests a contrast even though the paragraph adds another reason for closing zoos. Some connections between claims are unclear, particularly the move from pollution to reduced reproduction. Use topic sentences that identify each paragraph’s main point, and connect each explanation directly to the claim it supports.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant topic vocabulary, including “captivity,” “sentient creatures,” “psychological distress” and “reproduction,” which helps communicate the subject. However, the range is limited overall, and several inaccurate or repetitive expressions make parts of the argument less clear. Phrases such as “causes animals health,” “pollution ratio” and “different type of platforms” do not express the intended ideas naturally. Spelling errors, including “whare,” “shuld” and “polution,” also affect the impression of control. Build a more precise set of phrases for animal welfare and conservation, and check spelling and collocations carefully. For instance, describe harm to animals’ “physical and psychological well-being” rather than saying it “causes animals health.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences with reasons, such as the sentence beginning “Because in forest animals are free…”. This shows an effort to explain ideas, but control is limited: complex sentences often contain several errors, and these sometimes make relationships between ideas hard to follow. Examples include “I entirely agree with is perspective,” “Their are so many reason,” and “animals should not kept in zoos.” There are also problems with agreement and sentence boundaries, as in “visitors causes,” and the opening uses a full stop after “distress” where the following “And” fragment should be joined to the sentence. Practise accurate subject–verb agreement, articles and complete sentence structures before adding more clauses.
