Student answer (Band 5.0)

We no longer need to have animals kept in zoos, so zoos should be closed. I totally disagree with this statement that we no longer need to have animals kept in zoos, so zoos should be closed . I will give my opinion to support my answer.

First of all, From my every day experience and observation, I belive that the we longer need to have animals kept in zoos, in today's world. Because, childerns who reads from books about animals, so they can see him in practical life from zoos and learn more about animals and they always bring a smile to the childern faces. I still remeber that wnen I went to the Lahore zoo with my family and there I took many photos with differents kind of animals and enjoy the peaceful enviornment. Now, when I look back at the pictuers from that days and they always bring a smile to my face.

Second of all, I belive that zoos are very importent for our country. Because previous animals are very important for country standered.

To sum up, I belive that zoos are very important in today' life. Because they make us fresh and we have the chance to learn about animals.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

Your position is clear: you disagree with closing zoos, and you give a personal example about visiting Lahore Zoo. The point that children can see animals and learn about them is relevant, but it needs explanation and support. The second reason—that zoos are important for the country—is unclear, especially the sentence about animals being important for the country’s “stander[d].” The conclusion repeats your view without adding a developed summary. Overall, the task is addressed only partially, with limited and under-developed ideas. The response is 167 words, below the required 250; 38 words copied from the prompt were not counted. Develop at least two clear reasons with specific explanations or examples to address the task more fully.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs signalled by “First of all” and “Second of all,” and a conclusion beginning “To sum up.” This helps the reader identify the main stages of your answer. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes difficult to follow. For example, the first body paragraph shifts from children’s learning to your photographs and then to the peaceful environment without clearly connecting these points. The repeated “Because” fragments also interrupt the flow, and the second body paragraph is too brief to develop its point. Use complete topic sentences, explain each reason in sequence, and connect examples explicitly to your argument.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

You use basic vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “animals,” “zoos,” “learn,” and “peaceful environment,” and the personal example makes your meaning partly clear. However, the range is limited and several spelling and word-choice errors strain the reader, such as “belive,” “childerns,” “importent,” and “standered.” Some expressions are also unnatural or unclear, including “see him in practical life” and “bring a smile to the childern faces.” Aim for accurate topic vocabulary and natural collocations, such as “observe animals up close” and “raise public awareness.” Proofread spelling and choose precise words so your reasons are easier to understand.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

You attempt both simple sentences and longer clauses, for example, “I still remember that when I went to the Lahore zoo with my family…” This shows an effort to express a personal experience, but the range remains limited and errors are frequent. In “children who reads,” the verb does not agree with the plural subject; “they can see him” has unclear pronoun reference; and “I took many photos … and enjoy” shifts tense. Several sentences beginning “Because” are incomplete, while the opening repeats the task statement with awkward sentence construction and punctuation. Practise forming complete sentences, maintaining past tense in the anecdote, and checking subject–verb agreement, articles, and punctuation.
