Student answer (Band 6.0)

Animals are no longer needed to be kept in zoos, so we should close zoos. I mostly agree with this statement as I believe that zoos are a great way to educate humans about the animals but the conditions are really worst for animals in the zoos.

Around the world most almost all countries have zoos opened for the public. I believe that zoos help educate children and are great way to entertain the public. Most families visit zoos to have a decent family time and have a nice meaningful trip. Different kinds of animals are kept in the zoo and most children love seeing them. For example, in most countries visiting forrests or going to safaris in dangerous places is really difficult for general public so that they can experience the natural habitat of animals. This is the main reason for making zoos keeping different animals in a place so that everyone could enjoy and experience different kinds of animals regardless of their age and status.

On the other hand, I also believe that most of the time the animals kept in the zoo are not well taken care of and they are not feed well, this is the main reason why most people dislike the zoos. As the animals are in poor condition and not as joyous to look at. For instance, most animals are kept in a small space regardless of there size, they are fed in a limited quantity and most zoos are opened for business purposes so the people in charge could earn as much as possible without having to spend on the animal safety and health.

In conclusion, I believe that zoos are really important for a society as most children and adults learn about the animals from zoos. However I also believe that currently most zoos are in bad shape and most of the time animals are abused in this case I believe that these kind of zoos should be closed but if the government enforce strict policies and put heavy penalties for negligeance of animals on the organisors only than would be a good idea to open zoo for public.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear: you mostly agree that zoos should close because animals may be poorly treated, while recognising their educational value. You address both sides with relevant points, including children learning about animals and the risks of keeping them in small spaces. However, the argument does not fully resolve the question of whether zoos should be closed: the conclusion shifts to saying that only badly managed zoos should close and that others could remain open under stricter rules. Develop this distinction more explicitly and explain what standards would make a zoo acceptable. Some claims, such as animals not being fed well, are asserted rather than supported, so a specific example or explanation would strengthen the response.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph on educational benefits, a contrasting paragraph on animal welfare, and a conclusion. The progression from benefits to drawbacks is easy to follow, and phrases such as “On the other hand” and “In conclusion” help signal the stages of the argument. This meets the lower-band expectations and shows some features of stronger organisation. However, links between ideas can feel mechanical, and the conclusion introduces a conditional position that is not fully prepared for in the body. Some references are also unclear, such as “in this case,” which does not precisely identify the situation. Use more precise transitions and make the final position follow directly from the arguments developed.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate your main ideas, including “natural habitat,” “animal safety and health,” and “strict policies.” These phrases show an attempt to discuss the issue beyond very basic terms. However, the range is limited by repetition of “most,” “animals,” “zoos,” and “believe,” while several word choices or forms are inaccurate: “conditions are really worst,” “not feed well,” and “negligeance.” Some expressions are also unnatural, such as “have a decent family time” and “zoos opened for business purposes.” These choices do not prevent the reader from understanding your position, but they reduce precision and fluency. Build a wider set of accurate collocations for animal welfare, conservation, and public education, and check spelling and word forms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including clauses beginning with “as” and “so that,” and your meaning is generally understandable. Some sentences are controlled, such as “Different kinds of animals are kept in the zoo and most children love seeing them.” However, there are some errors in verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence construction. For example, “they are not feed well” needs a passive participle, and “if the government enforce strict policies” has a subject–verb agreement error. The final sentence is also difficult to control because several ideas are joined into one long structure. Use shorter, complete sentences where needed, and check verb forms and agreement when revising complex clauses.
