Student answer (Band 6.5)

It is argued that zoos should be closed because there is no need to keep animals in zoos. I completely disagree with this point of view because zoos provide one of the ways to protect the endangered animals and they are beneficial to boost the country's economy.

On of the major reason that why zoos should not be closed is their big role in the protection of endangered species. Put another words, zoos are the place where a proper care and shelter would be given to rare species which are susceptible to predators, forest wildlife, and harsh environmental conditions such as disease and climate change. For instance, Mountain Gorillas are the finest example of endangered species which are going to be extinct, if not protected by the government organizations working on wildlife protection. Therefore, by shifting the Mountain Gorillas to zoos, their extinction can be alleviated because wildlife caretakers can provide good care, healthy food and other necessities that are in scarce in forests.

In addition, zoos play an important role to boost the country's economy because they are considered a perfect picnic spot for tourism activities as well as for local people. To explain it, nearly all zoos do not allow the free entry of people due to the safety concerns of animals there, instead they charge a little amount of money in the form of entry tickets, which in turn, contributes in the economic stability. For example, Safari zoo is the largest zoo in Pakistan, located in Lahore, which charges about 200 per person and it also have different food points in the zoo. In this way, all the collected money go to the government's treasure, ultimately improving the economy.

In conclusion, zoos should not be closed. For one thing, they provide protection to endangered animal species and, for, another, they play an essential role in country's economy boost.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

Your position is clear from the introduction to the conclusion: you disagree with closing zoos and give two relevant reasons, conservation and economic benefits. Both body paragraphs include explanation and examples, such as the discussion of mountain gorillas and the Lahore Safari Zoo, so the response addresses the task and supports its main claims. The conservation argument is the more fully developed one, while the economic point relies mainly on ticket revenue and the broad claim that this improves the national economy. To strengthen the response further, explain more precisely how zoo income benefits conservation or local employment, and acknowledge briefly that animal welfare concerns exist before explaining why they do not justify closing all zoos. This would make the reasoning more balanced and fully developed.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The essay has a clear, effective structure: an introduction states your view, each body paragraph develops one reason, and the conclusion restates your position. The progression from conservation to economic benefits is easy to follow, and signposts such as “In addition,” “For instance,” and “In conclusion” help guide the reader. Some linking is less natural or slightly mechanical, particularly “Put another words” and “For one thing … for, another”; these phrases interrupt otherwise clear connections. There is also some repetition of the central claim that zoos protect endangered animals. To improve, use a wider range of natural transitions and make references between sentences more precise, while allowing the logical relationship between ideas to carry some of the cohesion without an explicit linker.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “endangered species,” “susceptible,” “predators,” “environmental conditions,” and “economic stability.” These choices help communicate the main ideas, and the meaning remains clear despite some inaccurate or unnatural expressions. Examples include “On of the major reason,” “in scarce in forests,” “government’s treasure,” and “economy boost”; these show that some word forms and collocations are not yet controlled. “Picnic spot” is also less suitable for describing a zoo’s role in tourism. Build accuracy by learning common word partnerships and checking whether a phrase sounds natural in context, rather than relying on direct translations. More precise vocabulary would make the argument sound more fluent and academic.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including relative clauses (“which are susceptible to predators”) and conditional structures (“if not protected by the government organizations”). Most sentences communicate the intended meaning, and the errors rarely prevent understanding. However, some grammatical inaccuracies remain. For example, “On of the major reason” has errors in the determiner and singular/plural agreement; “it also have different food points” needs subject–verb agreement; and “all the collected money go” also requires agreement. The sentence about gorillas becoming extinct is awkwardly constructed, and punctuation in “For one thing … and, for, another” is incorrect. Review agreement, articles, and clause construction, then proofread longer sentences to improve accuracy while retaining structural variety.
