Student answer (Band 5.5)
There are different opinions on whether the animals are kept in zoo or not. The essay deals with the both aspects In my perspective, zoos are vital for conserving wild life.
Many indviduals believe that there is no need of zoos for keeping animals beacause these places need high maintainence and regular checking which make things difficult. Lack of adequate facilities is one of the major problem. Consequently, wild life suffers from this. Recently, I heard the news on television that the female elephant in Lahore zoo was died due to lack of health care facilities. Properly trained staff is needed to handle the animals. Moreover, individuals who are visiting the zoo also poses serious problems. They even do not care about the cleanliness of the area and feed unheathy food to animals from the cage even after the strict instructions by the authority.
In contrast, many people think that the zoos are important for the conservation of wild life. Also it is crucial for the economy as well because it is the hot spot for tourists. Additionally, parents bring their children to zoo for entertainment purpose and also to make them familiar about the wild life and all other kinds of animals. There are some speices of animals that we have not seen anywhere else except zoo. Countries import animals from some other countries to keep them in zoo so that inhabitants of that country can experience the life of that particular animal and which are not native to their country. For instance, Pandas are only found in China. I do not think so that any other country has Pandas. So China is the country which import Pandas to all over the world so that people who will not visit China can also see Pandas.
In my perspective, zoos are important for the economy of country as well as for life of animals if proper conditions are maintianed.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address the question by presenting concerns about animal welfare and then explaining why you believe zoos remain important. Your final position—that zoos are valuable if proper conditions are maintained—is clear, and the Lahore elephant example gives a relevant illustration of inadequate care. However, the response does not fully develop the central question of whether zoos should be closed: the opposing case is described, but the reasons why improved standards are preferable to closure could be explained more directly. Some supporting claims are also unclear or insufficiently accurate, particularly the statement that China “import[s] Pandas to all over the world.” Explain the conservation benefits more specifically and support examples with precise details.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph presenting concerns, a contrasting paragraph supporting zoos, and a concluding position. Transitions such as “In contrast” and “Moreover” help signal relationships between ideas. However, the opening says the essay will deal with “both aspects,” which makes the position less immediate, and the first body paragraph combines maintenance, animal welfare, staff training, and visitor behaviour without clearly grouping or prioritising them. Some links are mechanical, especially repeated “Additionally” and “Moreover,” while the long explanation about pandas becomes difficult to follow. Use clearer topic sentences and connect each example explicitly to your argument.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a relevant range of vocabulary, including “conserving wildlife,” “adequate facilities,” “health care facilities,” and “tourists,” which allows you to discuss animal welfare and the role of zoos. There are also attempts at more specific expressions, such as “properly trained staff.” However, spelling and word-choice errors are noticeable, including “indviduals,” “maintainence,” “unheathy,” and “speices.” Some collocations are unnatural or imprecise: “hot spot for tourists,” “feed … food to animals from the cage,” and “experience the life of that particular animal.” Choose more standard academic phrasing and check spelling carefully; this would make your meaning more precise and fluent.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt a mixture of simple and complex sentences, using structures such as “because these places need…” and “so that inhabitants of that country can…”. Meaning is generally understandable, but errors in agreement, articles, verb forms, and sentence construction occur across the response. For example, “the female elephant … was died” should use a passive form such as “died” or “was killed,” while “individuals … also poses” has a subject–verb agreement error. Other examples include “one of the major problem” and “I do not think so that.” Some sentences, particularly the final panda example, are long and awkwardly joined. Practise accurate clause construction and review agreement and verb patterns.
