Student answer (Band 6.5)

Nowadays, many animals live in zoos . Some people think that zoos should be closed because animals need freedom to live and explore. However, I disagree with this idea of not having zoos because it helps animals to survive by providing them the best environment and food.

First of all, zoos help the animals by providing them safety from harsh environment and other animals. In addition, some people hunt animals for pleasure and entertainment. Zoos give animals food, water and a safe place to live. They also help sick animals. For example lions, tigers, and rare animals can stay safe in zoos. Therefore, having a zoo is a privilege for the animals if used effectively.

Secondly , zoos are helpful for students and children to learn and interact with a variety of animals. People can see different animals and learn about them. Children can learn about their food, shelter, and daily lifestyle. They can also learn the importance of these animals in their lives. For example , children and students can visit to zoo and see monkeys, birds, and endangered animals. So, it is important to secure the zoos with all updated facilities and opportunities for animals as well as people for an effective interaction. It will be beneficial for a mutual understanding among the variety of living organisms under one roof.

According to my opinion, all zoos do not need to be closed. Instead, they are vital for animal survival in this current era. To mitigate this, government should maintain the healthy environment of zoos and make sure that animals feel safe and happy there.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear: you disagree with closing zoos, and the introduction, body paragraphs and conclusion consistently support that view. You address two relevant reasons—animal protection and educational value—and give examples such as hunted animals and children seeing endangered species. This meets the task well, but the reasons are not developed equally fully. The protection argument would be stronger with explanation of how responsible zoos support endangered populations or rehabilitation; the education point mainly lists what children can learn without showing how this changes attitudes or behaviour. The claim that zoos provide the “best environment” is also broad and would benefit from qualification, since zoo conditions vary. More specific explanation and evidence would make the argument more fully extended.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction states your view, two body paragraphs present separate reasons, and the conclusion restates your position. Sequencing phrases such as “First of all,” “Secondly,” and “Instead” help readers follow the argument. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical, with several sentences beginning “They” or “Children,” and the examples are not always linked explicitly to the point they are meant to support. The sentence beginning “To mitigate this” is unclear because it does not identify what problem is being mitigated. Aim to vary linking and referencing, and make each paragraph’s reasoning progress from claim to explanation to example and implication. This would make the organisation more consistently smooth.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “harsh environment,” “hunt,” “endangered animals,” and “mutual understanding,” so the main ideas are communicated clearly. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “vital for animal survival” and “maintain the healthy environment.” Some choices are imprecise or unnatural, however: “a privilege for the animals” does not clearly express the intended benefit, and “updated facilities and opportunities” is vague in this context. “Visit to zoo” is also an inaccurate phrase. Repeated general words such as “animals,” “helpful,” and “learn” limit precision. Build a more specific range for conservation and education, and check collocations so formal vocabulary sounds natural rather than inserted.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex forms, including the reason clause “because it helps animals to survive” and the relative clause “animals that…” is not attempted, but your sentences generally communicate the intended meaning. Some grammatical and punctuation errors remain. For example, “Zoos give animals food, water and a safe place to live” is clear, but “children and students can visit to zoo” has an incorrect preposition and article pattern; write “visit a zoo.” In “For example lions, tigers, and rare animals,” punctuation around the introductory phrase and list needs attention. There are also inconsistent spaces before punctuation and after commas. Review articles, prepositions, and comma use, while continuing to practise varied sentence structures.
