Student answer (Band 5.5)

In contemporary world, people argue that animals should be not be kept in zoo, which has become a subject of considerable debate. While some opinions may differ regarding this issue. I firmly believe that zoo should be available for people, as it approaches substantial benefits in term of entertainment and for education purpose.

The primary reason for my position is that zoo helps children to learn about animals. Although, they learn from their schools, but by observing them will

enhance their knowledge and their imagination. For instance, taking a child to zoo will make him more curious rather than sitting in a classroom and hearing about animals, which helps them to do learning in fun way.

Furthermore, visiting zoo has become a purpose of entertainment among people, which provides another compelling justification to my viewpoint. In largely, animals provide a sense of happiness among people. The way they live their lives, their habits and lifestyles helps people to enjoy. Admittedly, some opponents believe that zoos are overrated and animals should not kept in prison for any purpose. Nevertheless, this opinion is less convincing as zoo provides care and helps to maintain the species.

In Conclusion, although animals should be imprisoned but I firmly belive that animals helps children to learn more efficiently, and visiting zoo provides a complete enjoyement for everyone. Because of this people can more likely to enjoy and do fun with their kids after a busy schedule and animals are so adorable that its makes everyone happy.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

Your position is clear: you disagree with closing zoos, and you give relevant reasons involving children’s learning, entertainment, and species care. The examples about seeing animals rather than only hearing about them help explain the educational point. However, the response addresses the issue only partially because the central question of whether zoos are still necessary is not explored in enough depth. The claim that zoos “helps to maintain the species” is important but unsupported, and the opposing view that animals are kept “in prison” is acknowledged without examining animal welfare or responding with specific evidence. Develop each reason with explanation or a concrete example, and make the conclusion’s position on captivity more consistent.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable overall structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Its progression from education to entertainment and then to a counterargument is generally easy to follow, and signposts such as “The primary reason,” “Furthermore,” and “Nevertheless” help guide the reader. However, some connections are mechanical or unclear. “While some opinions may differ” is left as a sentence fragment, and “In largely” does not clearly introduce the point that follows. The final paragraph repeats earlier claims rather than drawing them together, while “Because of this” creates an awkward link to the preceding sentence. Use clearer transitions between claims and explanations, and ensure each paragraph develops one main point in a logical sequence.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use some relevant topic vocabulary, including “considerable debate,” “observing,” “species,” and “entertainment,” and the meaning is generally understandable. There are also attempts to use more formal expressions, such as “compelling justification” and “less convincing.” However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, including “approaches substantial benefits,” “in term of entertainment,” “do learning in fun way,” and “complete enjoyement.” Repetition of “enjoy,” “animals,” and “helps” also limits the range. Aim for natural collocations and check spelling and word forms; for example, describe zoos as providing benefits and say that children learn in an enjoyable way. More precise vocabulary would make your argument clearer and more academic.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including a concession with “Although” and a contrast introduced by “Nevertheless.” However, control is inconsistent, and errors sometimes make sentences difficult to follow. For example, “While some opinions may differ regarding this issue” is an incomplete clause, while “Although, they learn from their schools, but…” combines two incompatible linking structures. There are also recurring agreement and article errors, as in “zoo helps,” “animals helps,” and “visiting zoo.” The final sentence, “animals are so adorable that its makes everyone happy,” contains an unclear pronoun and incorrect verb agreement. Practise complete clause structures, subject–verb agreement, and articles, then proofread each sentence for a clear subject and verb.
