Student answer (Band 5.0)

Nowadays, many people believe that there is no need to keep animals in zoos, so the zoos should be closed. I totally disagree with this statement because if the zoos are closed, then animals will not be safe in our society. In this essay, I will discuss my opinion with relevant examples.

To begin with, one of the main reasons is that if the zoo is closed, then animals can cause harm to humans because most of the animals are very dangerous, like lions and crocodiles. Therefore, it will be good if they stay at the zoo. To exemplify, lions attack humans, and sometimes most of the people face this problem in zoos and cause death. AS a result, animals should be kept in zoo more beneficial for society and individuals as well.

Furthermore, another crucial reason is that if the animals are kept out of zoos, then it creates pollution and destroys the environment. To illustrate, most of the animals who are not in the zoos and they live outside the zoo they destroy the human fields and crops. Moreover, if zoos were closed, then it would be injustic with animals because animals also want their own home where they love without any fear. Outside the zoos, they have fear of humans.

In contrast, Most of the people think zoos are no lonhger need because in zoos the animals are not seen anymore. Although most of the people prefer to keep the animals at home.

In conclusion, I completely disagree with the idea that zoos should be closed and are no longer needed because zoos are a need for animals where they live with freedom, and it will become more beneficial in the future.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

Your position is clear in the introduction and conclusion: you disagree with closing zoos, and you give reasons involving public safety and animals’ protection. However, the response only partially develops the task. The claim that animals outside zoos would “create pollution” is not explained, and the example about damaging fields and crops does not clearly establish why zoos should remain open. The paragraph beginning “In contrast” introduces a different view but is confusing: it says animals “are not seen anymore” in zoos and that people keep them at home, without explaining how this supports the opposing argument. Develop fewer, more relevant reasons—for example, conservation, rescue, or education—and explain each with a clear example.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has an identifiable introduction, body paragraphs, a contrasting paragraph, and a conclusion, and signposts such as “To begin with,” “Furthermore,” and “In conclusion” help show the intended structure. However, progression between ideas is not consistently clear. The second body paragraph moves from pollution to crop damage and then to animals’ fear, without showing how these points connect. The “In contrast” paragraph is also difficult to follow and does not clearly relate to the main argument. Some linking phrases, including repeated “if … then” constructions, feel mechanical. Organise each paragraph around one main reason, use clear references to connect supporting examples to that reason, and make the opposing view and response explicit.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use a basic range of topic vocabulary, including “animals,” “zoos,” “dangerous,” “environment,” and “crops,” which makes the general subject clear. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “crucial reason” and “To illustrate.” However, vocabulary is repetitive and several inaccurate choices or spellings make parts difficult to understand: “injustic,” “lonhger,” and “animals are not seen anymore” do not express the intended ideas clearly. Phrases such as “animals should be kept in zoo more beneficial” are also awkwardly formed. Aim for precise topic language and natural collocations, such as “wildlife conservation,” “natural habitat,” and “pose a threat,” and check spelling and word forms carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple sentences and complex clauses, particularly with “because,” “if,” and “although,” so there is some variety in sentence structure. The main position is generally understandable, but errors recur in articles, agreement, and sentence construction. For example, “kept in zoo” needs an article or plural form, while “animals should be kept in zoo more beneficial” lacks a clear grammatical connection between the ideas. In “most of the animals who are not in the zoos and they live outside,” the relative clause and pronoun are combined incorrectly. Capitalisation is also inconsistent in “AS” and “Most.” Build accuracy by writing shorter, complete sentences first, then adding subordinate clauses, and check articles and subject–verb relationships.
