Student answer (Band 5.5)

Zoos should be closed because people do no longer need to have animals to kept in the zoos. Although pepole always going to oos to see animals can be stressful most of the time, but on the other hand, zoos are very vital to the state/ nations because it creates room for revanue to the the state, so i disagree with the notion that animals should no longer be kept in zoos.

Furthemore, animals should be kept in zoos for study purpose, many nations today do no longer have big forest where wild animals lives, so this make it difficult for students to see wild animals when they need it to carry out their practicals. For example, department of animal husbandary of Unizik gave their students an assignment about six months ago to visit a zoo and write down they types of animals the see there and what they observe, just imagine if there is no zoo how are they going to carry out their assignment.

Another reason why i disagree that zoos should be closed is because it creates employment to the people. Many people are working in zoos today and by doing so it has reduced the level of unemployment in the society. For instance, a friend of mine is working in a zoor named fun city here in Anambra state, and by he is earning a living from there.

In conclusion, although going to zoos to see animals can be stressful and expenses too because of charge people pay there, but i strong disagree that zoos should be closed because it provides job opportunities to the people.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear: you disagree with closing zoos, and you give relevant reasons about education and employment. The example of students visiting a zoo for an assignment helps illustrate the educational point, while the example of your friend’s job supports the employment argument. This addresses the task, but the reasons are not developed equally. The opening mentions revenue for the state, yet this point is not explained or supported later. The claim that zoo visits are stressful and expensive is also introduced without showing how it affects your overall view. To strengthen the response, explain each main reason more fully and connect the examples directly to why zoos should remain open.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion. Each body paragraph focuses on a main reason, which helps the reader follow your argument. However, progression is sometimes weakened by abrupt or unclear connections. The opening moves from stress to revenue before stating your position, and the conclusion repeats the point about stressful and expensive visits without resolving its relationship to your disagreement. Linking phrases such as “Furthermore” and “For instance” are useful, but some transitions feel mechanical, and references such as “it” in “it creates employment” are not always precise. Organise the introduction around your position and main reasons, then use clearer links between claims, explanations and examples.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate your main ideas, including “wild animals,” “practicals,” “unemployment” and “job opportunities.” However, the range is limited and several noticeable spelling, word-form and collocation errors make parts less natural, such as “revanue,” “animal husbandary,” “zoor” and “creates room for revenue.” Some phrases are also imprecise, including “stressful most of the time” and “study purpose.” Aim for accurate, natural expressions rather than adding difficult vocabulary: for example, “generate revenue,” “for educational purposes” and “zoo staff.” Proofreading spelling and choosing more precise topic vocabulary would make your argument clearer and more fluent.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including a concession in “Although …, but on the other hand” and a conditional question about how students would complete an assignment without zoos. However, complex structures are often not controlled, and errors in verb forms, agreement, articles and sentence construction sometimes make the reader work to understand the meaning. Examples include “people do no longer need to have animals to kept,” “animals … lives,” and “it creates employment to the people.” The opening also combines “Although” and “but” unnecessarily, while the final sentence has a similar construction. Practise building one clear main clause with a correctly formed subordinate clause, and check subject–verb agreement and verb patterns.
