Student answer (Band 5.0)

There is no more requirement of residing animals in zoos. There are certain reassons supporting either there is a need of keeping animals in zoos or not. As all the living organisms should have freedom of living independently where they want to live or not. I would prefer that there is no more need of keeping animals in zoos. Animals are naturally inhabitants of natural and jungle environments. When we keep animals in a congested and enclosed arficial environment it creates difficulties while adapting this congested ecosystem. Naturally most of the animals belong to jungle ecosystem where they survive using their abilities to hunt and survive. These carnivores mainly rely on hunting to meet their food requirements. When we keep animals in zoo they loose their natural abilities which they got by creater. For instance if we take tiger which is entirely a carnivore predator that hunts its prey and then eat to get energy for living. When tiger is kept in artificial ecosystem like zoo he loses his abilities of hunting and becomes totally dependent on the zoo management for feeding purpose. Tiger loses its dignity when he is kept in zoo. So zoo makes a big difference in the life of such animals which arre not pet. There are certain kind of pet animals like cats, dogs which can be kept in zoo. On the contrary the animals kept in zoo are kind of entertainment for childern. They visit zoo and enjoy knowing about different species of animals that exist on earth. While there is another aspect that zoo is a source of certain people working in zoo. If we close zoo then these people will be left unemployed and will lead to serious issues of regarding to employment of skilled labour that belong to zoo.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You state a clear preference against keeping animals in zoos, and the points about restricted habitats and loss of hunting behaviour are relevant to the question. The tiger example helps illustrate your main concern. However, the response only partly develops the argument: claims such as animals losing their “dignity” are asserted rather than explained, and the counterpoints about children’s education and zoo employment are introduced without showing how they affect your overall position. The sentence about cats and dogs being suitable for zoos also conflicts with your view and is not supported. To strengthen the response, explain why the benefits of education and employment do or do not outweigh animal welfare, and support each main point with a clear example.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The response has a recognisable line of thought: it begins with your position, develops concerns about animals’ lives, and then introduces benefits of zoos. However, the ideas are presented in one continuous block, so the reader has little help distinguishing the main argument from the counterargument. Progression is also uneven: the shift to “On the contrary” and then “While there is another aspect” feels abrupt, and the relationship between these points and your final position is not made clear. Some linking is repetitive or awkward, including repeated use of “When we keep animals” and “Naturally.” Use separate paragraphs for your position, supporting reasons, and opposing view, and add a concluding sentence that returns explicitly to the question.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You attempt topic-specific vocabulary, including “carnivore,” “predator,” “ecosystem,” and “dependent,” which helps communicate the subject. There is also some effort to use less common expressions such as “natural abilities” and “congested environment.” However, word choice and collocation are often inaccurate or unnatural, as in “requirement of residing animals,” “jungle environments,” and “feeding purpose.” Spelling errors such as “reassons,” “arficial,” “loose,” and “childern” are noticeable and reduce control. Some wording is also repetitive, particularly “animals,” “zoo,” and “keep.” Build accuracy by learning common collocations and checking spelling, while choosing precise terms such as “wildlife,” “captivity,” and “natural habitat” where appropriate.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and longer sentences, including a conditional example about what happens when a tiger is kept in a zoo. However, the range is limited, and complex sentences are often faulty or difficult to follow. For example, “As all the living organisms should have freedom of living independently where they want to live or not” is an incomplete and confusing construction. There are also recurring problems with articles, agreement, and sentence structure, as in “When tiger is kept” and “these people will be left unemployed and will lead to serious issues.” Punctuation is inconsistent, especially around the long sequence of ideas. Practise building complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, and use shorter sentences when a complex structure becomes difficult to control.
