Student answer (Band 6.5)
I strongly disagree with the statement that there is no need to have animals kept in zoos or zoos should be closed. There is a dire need to maintain the zoos. Instead of giving attention to the maintenance, the suggestion of closing them will only be a source of escaping a responsibility.
As a zoology graduate, I have always had a keen interest in Animals. Carrying out internship at Bhawalpur zoo has shaped my opinion about the need of Zoos in Pakistan. People living in the urban areas, do not have access to the wild envionments. Biodiversity of Fauna of a region is only observable for them in the zoos. If the zoos are closed, there will be no opportunity to witness the wildlife, specifically for people living in urban areas.
Moreover, zoos are the best places to conserve the biodiversity of a particular country. For example, if an animal is endangered and it is left in the wild environments such as forest, the lack of proper care and reproduction will result in extinction. On the other hand, if that specific animal specie is kept in the zoo and is provided proper care, food and favourable breeding environment, it will flourish greatly and there will be no risk of extinction.
When zoos are opened up for the public, it can benefit the economy of the country. The revenue generated from the tickets, food stalls and amusement activities can be used effectively to maintain the zoos. In this way, zoos will be self-sustained.
If there is a concern about the safety of animals, then there should be a proper infrastructure in the zoos to keep animals at the safe distance from public access.
In a nutshell, improving infrastructure and management will be more sagacious than closing the zoos.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
Your position is clear from the opening and remains consistent: you oppose closing zoos and argue for better management instead. You address several relevant reasons, including public access to wildlife, conservation, economic benefits and animal safety. The internship example gives your view a personal basis, while the endangered-animal example helps explain the conservation argument. However, some claims are broad or insufficiently qualified—for instance, that an endangered animal in the wild will face extinction because of inadequate care, and that zoo income can make zoos self-sustaining. Explain the conditions under which zoos can support conservation, and acknowledge that this depends on animal welfare and effective management. This would make the supporting ideas more fully developed and precise.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The response is organised into clear paragraphs, each developing a distinct reason for keeping zoos, and the progression from public access to conservation, economic benefits and safety is easy to follow. Linking expressions such as “Moreover,” “On the other hand,” and “In a nutshell” help signal the relationships between ideas. The conclusion also returns to your central position. At times, however, the links are somewhat formulaic, and some references could be clearer: “it” in the discussion of an endangered animal may refer to the animal or the situation. The opening also repeats the idea of opposing closure in closely related phrases. Use more varied transitions and make references explicit to create smoother, less repetitive cohesion.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use a suitable range of topic vocabulary, including “biodiversity,” “endangered,” “reproduction,” “revenue” and “infrastructure,” which allows you to discuss conservation and zoo management. There are also attempts at less common language, such as “sagacious” and “self-sustained.” However, some choices are inaccurate or unnatural: “wild envionments” contains a spelling error, “animal specie” is not the correct form, and “a source of escaping a responsibility” is an awkward expression. Capitalisation is also inconsistent in “Animals” and “Zoos.” Aim for precise collocations and natural phrasing rather than choosing unusually formal words where a simpler expression is clearer. This would improve control of vocabulary while preserving the useful range already present.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex structures, including conditional forms (“If the zoos are closed…”) and contrastive clauses (“On the other hand…”). Most sentences communicate the intended meaning, and the argument remains understandable. Some grammatical errors nevertheless occur. For example, “People living in the urban areas, do not have access” has an unnecessary comma, while “if that specific animal specie is kept” has a number/form problem in the noun phrase. In “When zoos are opened up for the public, it can benefit the economy,” the pronoun does not agree clearly with the plural subject. Review agreement, articles and punctuation, and check each sentence’s subject and pronoun references. Greater accuracy across these structures would strengthen the response.
