Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0

The response shows some awareness of the table’s subject and identifies dependent-children households as the largest category, which is a relevant main feature. However, it does not provide a meaningful summary of the changes: the claim that one-person households had their highest percentage “in between 2001 and 2007” is imprecise, as the figure is 12% in both years, and no other figures or trends are reported. The description of the table’s rows and columns does not substitute for selecting and comparing data. The response is also below the required 150 words, with 95 words counted; the nine words copied from the prompt were excluded. To improve, give a clear overview and support it with accurate comparisons across the years.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 3.5

There is a basic attempt to move from describing the table to commenting on its contents, using “on the other hand” and “when i see the table.” However, these links do not create a clear progression, and the ideas are difficult to follow because the response is presented as one block without distinct overview and detail sections. The opening repeats the task instruction rather than introducing a focused summary, while the final observation is incomplete and does not develop the comparison. Organise the response into short paragraphs: first state the main trends, then compare the most important categories with figures. Use linking expressions only when they show a genuine relationship between ideas.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The response uses some relevant topic vocabulary, including “percentage,” “household,” “dependent children,” and “lone parent,” so the reader can recognise the subject. However, the range is narrow and several word choices or spellings make the meaning unclear, such as “maka comparisons,” “raws,” “muchest,” and “lonly parent.” Some phrases are also unnatural for describing data, including “the highest percentage year” and “the side of rows.” Use standard chart language and accurate category names, for example, “the proportion of one-person households” and “the largest category.” Careful spelling and more precise collocations would make the limited information easier to understand.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response attempts simple statements and a longer sentence beginning “when i see the table,” but grammatical control is inconsistent. For example, “a table which contain” has incorrect subject–verb agreement, and “all of the household the muchest of the one is dependent childern” does not form a clear grammatical sentence. Articles, plurals, and sentence boundaries also need attention; the opening sentence is awkwardly constructed, and several statements lack clear punctuation. Most structures are simple, with little accurate variety. Practise forming complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, such as “Households with dependent children accounted for the largest share in every year, although their proportion declined.”
