Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify several relevant categories and report some genuine patterns, including the rise in one-person households from 6% to 12% and the fall in households with dependent children from 52% to 36%. You also note that lone-parent households reached 12% by 2001 and stayed there in 2007. However, the response only partly summarises the table: there is no clear, accurate overview of the main trends, and some comparisons are incomplete or unclear. For example, the no-children figure was 23% in 1991 and 25% in both 2001 and 2007, not 23% in 2001. State the broad contrast—that dependent-child households declined while several other types increased or levelled off—then support it with accurate figures.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The response follows the table’s categories in a broadly recognisable order, and phrases such as “Moreover” and “On the other hand” show an attempt to connect information. However, the progression is difficult to follow because several ideas are crowded into long, unclear sentences, and the final sentence begins “overview finish the report,” which does not function as a clear overview. Connections between years and categories are also sometimes hard to identify. Organise the report into a short introduction, a distinct overview, and two body paragraphs grouping the main trends. Use linking expressions only where they accurately show a contrast or addition, and make each sentence focus on one comparison.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

You use some relevant terms, including “percentage,” “dependent children,” “non dependent children,” and “lone parent,” so the reader can identify the subject of most comparisons. However, vocabulary is often inaccurate or unnatural, and several choices obscure the intended meaning: “spend,” “pay out,” and “expenditure” do not describe household percentages. There are also noticeable spelling errors, such as “demostrates,” “couble,” and “diffrence.” Use precise reporting language and consistent category labels from the table. For example, describe a figure as “accounted for” a percentage, and say that a proportion “rose,” “fell,” or “remained stable.” Proofreading spelling and word forms would make the information easier to understand.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt to compare figures across years and use both simple statements and clauses introduced by “that” and “but.” However, sentence structures are limited, and errors in verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence boundaries frequently make relationships between figures unclear. For instance, “the one person spend 6 percentage … has increase in 12 percentage” has incorrect verb forms and an unclear comparison; “it had diminished in next 1991to 2007” also lacks a clear grammatical structure. Practise accurate past-tense reporting (“rose,” “fell,” “remained”) and build shorter sentences with a clear subject and verb. Check punctuation and capitalisation, especially at sentence beginnings and around year ranges.
