Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses the task by identifying the main features and trends. However, the analysis is somewhat mechanical and lacks a clear, cohesive overview. While you mention the categories, the summary of the data is slightly disjointed. You successfully highlight the highest and lowest proportions, but the comparison between categories could be more analytical. To improve, ensure you group the data more logically rather than listing figures chronologically, and focus on the most significant changes or patterns across the entire period to provide a more insightful summary.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat repetitive and occasionally mechanical (e.g., 'In one person household type', 'Furthermore'). The transition between sentences is sometimes abrupt, making the flow feel a bit stilted. To reach a higher band, try to use a wider variety of linking words and ensure that referencing (e.g., 'the latter', 'this trend') is used more effectively to connect ideas across sentences and paragraphs.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, but it is quite limited and repetitive. Phrases like 'constant change', 'inclined', and 'declined' are used, but sometimes inaccurately (e.g., 'inclined' is not the best choice for describing a statistical increase). There are also some minor errors in word choice and phrasing, such as 'accounted on' instead of 'accounted for'. To improve, incorporate more precise terminology for describing trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'remained stable', or 'experienced a gradual rise'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles, prepositions, and subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'the types includes', 'in year 2007', 'the lone parents ratio was increase'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with some missing commas and incorrect spacing. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to affect the overall clarity. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for subject-verb agreement will significantly improve your score.
